You can't, it's one of those quirky things you have no control of in itunes.

    BUT

There are two workarounds, one of them is to download an additional bit of software built specifically for getting your data back off the ipod, the other option is to do the method mentioned in the Stickied FAQ thread posted at the top of this subforum, which I have found to be a more reliable option.

While the latter method may seem more complicated I can assure you that it's very easy to do if you follow the simple instructions and it is much better for doing a total back up. If you are just removing specific tracks/albums one of the pieces of mentioned software would be more convenient.

iDump. Have used it several times. 60% of the time it works, every time.

But honestly, it's fantastic. Has the job done and all your music organized into folders in jig time.

just to point out i'm assuming that idump works.

that "works 60% of the time all the time" is a quote from the quite hilarious film entitled Anchorman, just in case anyone hasn't seen it.

and if you haven't seen it. why the hell not!

    Ok thanks that works ...

now my iPod seems to work aswell ... I'm not sure whether i should return it, just in case problem returns outside of warranty , what is the procedure ?
do they send it back to the factory and it gets repaird ? or replaced ?

because if it's repaired and its an error that doesn't always happen, chances are when they test it, it will work and they will insist nothing is wrong ?
