LG 50PG3000 vs Samsung PS50A457 vs Sharp LC46X20E

Which of the above would be the best TV to buy?.

All 3 are £649 from Richersounds. Would be used mostly to watch SD TV and DVDs, although I have quite a few HD DVDs. I can't see myself getting a Blu-ray player anytime soon.

My current preference is for one of the plasmas as I believe the pic quality on a plasma is better than that of an LCD. The Sharp LC46X20E is full HD so that should make it future proof (until "enhanced" HD or something comes along :))

    Hi Podge.

Did you decide on one of these TVs yet?

IMO, if the majority of your viewing will be SD DVD & broadcast TV, the 720p sets could be better - less of a gap from SD to 720p. That thinking may be flawed, and I'm open to attempts to alter it.

Both the Sam & LG TVs you mention are well respected at their price points. Based mostly on online reviews and opinions/info I've read on forums, in odrder, I'd have chosen the Sam 1st, LG 2nd, and was always going for plasma, so the Sharp wouldn't have been in it.

I've been waiting for some other stuff to come into stock with RS in Belfast, and in that time the Sam has been depleted, so I'm actually about to buy the LG at £650. Like yourself, I'll be using it mostly for SD DVD & broadcast TV (satellite & DTT), and I'm confident it'll do just fine.

I'd be interested to hear which TV you bought and what you think of it?
