    Hey,

So i couldn't find my ticket on the Dart about mid November and the ticket inspector took all my details and told me i was going to be fined. I then recieved a €50 fine in the post one day before Christmas. Nice!!

Has anyone ever been fined before or else do you know anyone that has? Did you pay the fine or are you now due in court with a €1000 euro fine as it states at the botom of the letter if i don't pay within 21 days!!

    Do i pay or not??

    Help, all advice welcome!!

    Cheers.:)

I know i panicked and was honest!!

    Thanks for replying!

  • What happens if you give fake details? Can you get away with it? (Hypothetical situation of course!) I assume they have a thing for checking addresses, but couldn't you just give an address you know exists with a fake name?

Didn't think of that at the time!

Was thinking of calling up and saying that no one by the name on the letters lives here!!

If you're caught at a station they usually use Thoms Directory to see if you're listed. On a train I've no idea...

My mate got fined before so wrote a letter to them with some bullshit story about how he was late to visit his sick mother in hospital etc and ddidn't have time to stop for a ticket. Usual crap. Anyway, a week later he got a letter saying the fine was quashed. They basically don't want the hassle of having to listen to you so for the price of a stamp you should get off with it.

They can get the Garda to check your name and address and if the garda isn't convinced, you can be arrested.

    Just pay the fine.

hey all, yesterday i was on the train from leixlip to drumcondra and was caught out without a ticket...no excuses, just caught out. Anywho the inspector asked me for my i.d and i showed my college i.d and he took down my name. Then he asked for my address...I pretty much panicked and gave a fake address. He believed me and gave me the receipt and walked away...At the start I was delighted but now I'm just wondering if it was perhaps a mistake and if I can get caught out? Mainly because the address I gave isn't a million miles away from my house so if the people get the guards involved maybe my name would be there...Any advice greatly appreciated!

Go along to their office and pay the fine. No addresses involved then.

About 30 years ago my brother gave a fake address when he got caught bunking a turnstile on the London underground. The authorities chased up the details and found that the address he gave was a derelict building. A week later he got arrested when the guard recognised him, the only thing that got him off a prison sentense was his age. This was way before any CCTV or database. Its not worth it for the sake of e50.
