What would be the recommended approach in taking out breakdown cover for someone who is living in the north Mon-Fri and in the Republic at the weekends? Does anyone know is there all-Ireland coverage with companies?

I'm pretty sure the AA and the RAC offer UK and Ireland coverage as standard.

+1 About 2 years ago I was driving around England and had rang the AA up in advance to see if I was covered. I was.

The AA and RAC both provides you a coverage all around UK and Ireland. AA cover the person and not the car i.e. it does not matter what car you are driving, if you require assistance you are covered regardless.RAC cover the car not the person.
