    Hi,

Im looking for some info on apprenticeships. Ive looked on the FAS website and there are only 8 available listed in the country. Is that due to the recession or just the time of year, (as in there'll be more closer to Sept)? Or both?

Or have i just picked a really bad time to try and do one?

    Any help appreciated.

Id say you've picked a very bad time to do one, loads of apprentices were let because the work is just simply not there, taking up a trade at the moment is a bad as the odds of you finding someone that will take you on is slim.

Previous poster is right in what they say im afraid. Its just a bad time for construction all round. Im a chippie myself 6 years qualified now and cant find work for love nor money. I know alot of apprentices who were let go also and now as a result cant finish there apprenticeships or indeed find work anywhere.

Its just the way it is now and prob for the next couple of years will be the same but who knows...

If i were you mate and i was starting out id strongly consider going to college and getting a good degree in something that is always in demand and something you will enjoy.Things will turn around again and when they do you could be top of the pile with a good education and end up gettin yourself a kick ass job!!
I turned my nose up to college and deeply regret it now, not just because there is no work now(although that is a factor) but because there are just more possibilities and avenues open to you....

anyway best of luck with whatever you decide to do mate
    :D
