FETAC mess up

Howdy all i am currently in a plc course with the hope of heading to ucc and there computer science course this coming academic year however i have hit a snag. Basically my mother was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo major surgery and chemo and as she is a single mother of three i had to look after my siblings for a long period of time. however she is now cancer free which is of course awesome!

The problem is however i need to get decent grade in my fetac course and i especially need to get a distinction maths. Basically while the assignments were being handed out i was away from my course looking after my family. While i got some done before i had to leave i missed the handout of my maths paper. Is there a way to get extra credit to try and fix this as without its whopping 30 percent mark my chances of getting my much need distinction are out the window along with my ambition. Are my teachers hands tied by the VEC or will they accept a late asignment due to the circumstances and also are FETAC entry requirments for colleges set in stone and if so could i appeal it in some way?

While i truely beleive i did the right thing taking my family over my own future i would hope there is a way to get my life back on track after this incident. The guilt seems to be upsetting my mother while she is in no way responsible and if anything i want this done so everyone can relax, sorry for the wall of text its just a very distressing time.

    Thanks in advance
    Korasa

I'm sure you would be much better of e-mailing your tutor and the VEC asking to arrange a meeting to discuss your circumstances, I cannot give you an answer but usually I have found educational institutions to be very accomodating of people with personal problems like yours.

However I would say to do it immediately, it could be too late if you leave it until after you have gotten a bad mark

    Best of luck
