Assuming this isnt against the rules, would anyone be interested in putting together a boards bands album? Like everyone submit a song from their band(unsigned only) and we vote depending on how many tracks we get, and then stick em all together and put em up for download?

Sounds like a great idea we would be definately interested. Check out our myspace: www.myspace.com/thestylusband . We only have rough version of two of our songs up there but we'll be going to the studio soon to get some hopefully quality recording done!Let me know what you think!Like your bands songs...keep up the good work!

    Excellent Idea!

Would love to get our band involved if this became official.

Would love to know how the mods feel? It could work!

Maybe sell it in shops as a charity CD or something like that. Good for the charity, good for boards and good for the artists involved

    Interesting :)

I hate to be the voice of detraction here, but every band and musician on here plays different styles, I can't imagine indie kids wanting to include metal and vice versa and if you only pick one style then you are guilty of being favoratist..

Ah! But an album of multiple genre would appeal to more people and sometimes depnding on how it's handled can work!

    Difficult but not impossible

I don't know, Dublin is a very petty place already when it comes to supporting our bands, if you put a multiple genre cd(s) out with unsigned bands on them Dublin people will probably respond with apathy, would you buy a CD that only contains a few songs you will like?

    Great idea anyway...

It might work but the quality would have to be good. No ****e for the sake of it.... or looking after your mates....

Good idea, I'll put forward one of our tunes. Basics for Happiness, it's on our myspace.

Sounds like a difficult plan but fair play if you can pull it off.

I'll nominate my song Newborn its on my bebo page, http://www.bebo.com/AridStar

I'm currently doing a remix so bear with me. I doubt there will be much of a rush though.

I think that this is a great idea. It might be difficult to encompass a variety of genres but maybe see what people come up with first. Now I'll just have to get my band into the studio to record something properly :).

What has insinkerator's idea got to do with Dublin?

At the very least it could be made a free download, hosted by boards.ie. There could be a link on the front page for it or something.

I think that's a good idea. The exposure for the bands concerned would be great.

sound, once we dont have to pay for it... or its a charity album... as its about the music, not the money

I dunno would selling it be a good idea, having to gather money for the production, deciding on a charity, where to sell it and all that lark, also selling it would probably bring about some form of legal complications, and everything would need to be copyright protected etc etc

I agree, i wouldnt pay for that kind of mix, i would have no problem downloading it for free though

Again free download would combat that

At the very least it could be made a free download, hosted by boards.ie. There could be a link on the front page for it or something.

That could run into complications, first of all it would be a whole lot of bandwidth that boards may not be willing to pay for, however if they would host it, it'd be great. I was thinking more along the lines of posting a rapidshare link or something similar

I have taken part in projects like this on another board, with a really international base and we pulled it off, so it should technicaly be a lot easier.

When i get the time, im gonna sift through the pimp your band thread etc and PM everyone, then i will create a submission thread for people to submit, and hpefully we could get it stickied so everyone sees it.

Also it would be great if we could get a mod on board so we know we are within the rules etc

    Everyone ok with that?

Services like Rapidshare and BitTorrent could be used if bandwidth is a problem. I also think that people shouldn't get hung up on style clashes and so on. If people are going to be closed minded enough to say "Oh I'm not listening to that because it's Punk/Death Metal/Grindcore/Whatever then it's their problem!

I wasn't really involved in the process so I don't know if there's a bandwith cap on this, but to save on bandwith for our own site we have our EP downloadable from bandcamp.mu. So if you go to jackofspeed.net/download it just redirects here.

Might be an option if boards don't want to host it.

My hope as well is that the more people we can potentially get involved in the entire thing, the more people that are going to initially download it, just to see the fruits of their labour. Plus the more we bandy on about it here, the more people we should get to download it afterwards then.

in relation to the bandwidth / space problem would it be workable for it to be hosted (As a zipped / rarred file) on several bands / musicians websites with several links to the file from boads?

    Edit:
    our band's myspace is www.myspace.com/dermotbyrne
