Noob question, but I wanted to check just to be sure..

My desk has 48v on/off switch beside the power switch.. I am using SM58 mic's which obviously don't require phantom power, but sometimes i hit the wrong switch and turn the 48v on..

Could this potentially cause damage to the mic's or is it nothing to worry about? Just rather be safe than sorry..

No it won't damage them at all.
Most mics won't be damaged with phantom power, the ones you have to watch though are Ribbon mics, some are safe, others will get killed by it.

    I second this question....
People have said to me that it's ok to send phantom power to dynamics but it changes the sound of the mic or something....how does it?....like do you mean it's ok if you just switch it on for a dynamic by accident for a second...is it ok to actually record with phantom power going to it??

it doesnt change the sound (or shouldnt at least) - the pahntom power is drawn by the mic itself when needed and not sent by the interface.
