Sanding varnished banisters

    Hi

The banisters in our house are varnished and we want to paint them white.

So I commenced sanding, but at the rate it's going, it will take 6 months as the posts are bevelled etc.

Is there a more efficient solution? Are the liquid sander solutions I have seen in DIY stores suitable?

    Hi
All you need to do is sand slightly to give the undercoat a grip then finish with gloss or semi gloss or what ever white you wish.

Rub them down with wire wool. It's much quicker and will provide the key for the paint.

As above, if you are painting then you dont need to remove all the varnish. Just any loose flakey bits and then make sure to take the shine of everywhere else.

Its a manky job to take it all off...believe me :(
