Any recommendations? I was in Arnotts today looking to get a pair of king size sheets the same as I got last year - only problem was there is no brand name on the sheets I have and nothing there seemed to be as good.

The ones I have are 100% cotton. I can't remember the thread count (am wondering just how good an indication this is as I bought a pair in Clerys last year that were 300 thread count and they are thin and uncomfortable) but really really thick and smooth. Best sheets I've ever had. In the end I didn't buy anything as nothing felt great to the touch.

    Any experts out there?

I work in the wonderful world of soft furnishings and I have to say I've sold (and owned) so many different kinds that I no longer go by the packet when trying to discern quality. I've poly-cotton mix sheets on my beds at the moment that are softer and wash better than expensive 100% cotton ones I splashed out on recently. My advice is touch before you buy. Don't pull 'em out of their packets and unfold them and generally make a mess, but don't be afraid to open the top of the pack and have a good feel. We spend enough of our lives in bed - the last thing people need is uncomfortable sheets.

Oh, and remember - not everyone wants the same thing - I like soft and warm, but one of my workmates prefers colder stiffer fabrics, so just because someone tells you it's nice doesn't mean YOU will think it is.
