Heard about this recently, apparently a syndicate have applied for planning permission for a shopping centre with a cinema, bowling alley and restaurants in the town of Kildare, not too far from Maryville as I understand it, where the old Black and Decker factory was I believe.

Anyone have any details on this?

    :)

The €100 million plan was submitted by Palladio Properies Ltd. a couple of years ago. It's going through a further information process with the council for the last number of years, with the last submission of a response happening in December.

You can take a look at the plans on the KCC website. It's reference 061535.

Any body hear what's supposed to be happening with the Barracks?
Wasn't there talk of some sort of development going in there?

The Barracks was vacated in 1997 and after a spell as a refugee accomodation cente, it was to be redeveloped with a significant social\affordable housing element. The initial plan was rejected for not being commercially viable, the second draft was put out for discussion in late 2007. It featured a much greater density of housing, and that's where things lie. Both developments were to contain 10% of the area for 'community gain'.

You can check the Council's project site here and my submission on the last version of the plan is on my blog.
