Getting started with target shooting

    Hi all,

I've done some target shooting abroad and I was thinking of getting started in Ireland. Im a little hesitant however in light of the recent announcement from the Justice dept in relation to the issuing of handgun licenses.

First off, does anyone know of a recognised shooting range in the Galway region? I take it you need to be a paid up member in order to qualify for a license (as well as some other bits and peices such as firearm storage, home security etc)

Any advice for someone getting startd here? I dont want to approach the local firearms officer without knowing what I should have prepared etc etc

    Cheers :)

I don't know of any range near Galway. Nearest I know of would be the Midlands range. It can cater for pretty much every type of target shooting and is a top notch facility. Depending on what part of Galway you're in, Lough Bo may also be an option.

The requirements for getting a firearm cert differ from district to district but you can assume that being a member of a club will either be required or will be a big help in most districts.

What type of target shooting were you interested in?
