Leicester to Cork

    Hi,
    Just looking for some opinions on the following.

    I'll be coming from Leicester in England and going to Cork next week and I'm trying to decide what would be the best route to take. The Mileage works out at pretty much the exact same whether I take the Ferry at Holyhead or Pembroke/Fishguard, I know landing in Dublin at 6 will mean it'll add a good bit on to the journey time, but I don't really know the route from Leicester to Pembroke traffic wise if I'm to make it for a ferry departing at 14:30. I've been the route to Holyhead before and it's fine, if the route to Pembroke is just as good, I think that's the best choice to take, hop off at Rosslare and head to Cork from there.

    here are the calculations for both routes not taking traffic into account:

    Leicester-Holyhead-Cork
    Miles/Time
    200 / 4.32
    000 / 3.15 (ferry)
    161 / 3.35
    ========
    361/11.22

    Leicester-Pembroke-Cork
    240/4.18
    000/3.45(ferry)
    120/3.00
    ========
    360/11.03

    So according to the route planners, they are near identical. At the moment I'm set on the Pembroke departure so I can avoid Dublin traffic at peak times. I'll need to leave Leicester at about 8am either way, but can I expect a clear run with each route or congestion ahoy?

    Any feedback appreciated :)

    dublin to Cork is now nearly all motorway so should be plain sailing once clear of Dublin.....Rosslaire route is pretty much guaranteed to be lighter on traffic, and if you avoid Waterford City and go via Clonmel you can pick up the M8 at Cahir...

    Thanks for the feedback. So you'd go with the Rosslare one yourself?

    The Rosslare route will be serviced by the new Oscar Wilde that day too, which is supposed to be a lovely ship, not that I'll be doing much other than catching up on rest though :)
