Daughter has decided that she wants to steer away from classical music on violin and move towards traditional. is it possible to get a book of sheet music for ballads such as fields of athenry etc as I cant seem to find anything on net apart from guitar chords. Thanks in advance

Ok, for a start if she's going to be playing trad fiddle she won't eally be playing songs, like the Fields of Athenry. Most, or practically all, trad fiddle players will be playing tunes, e.g. jigs, reels, hornpipes, polka's, slides etc! So if she intends to be playing in sessions in future thats where she wants to be focusing!

If she's serious aout playing fiddle I would suggest getting a teacher, sheetmusic isn't the way to go at all, it only gives one single take on a tune with no reference to the myriad of different combinations of variations/ornamentation. Learning by ear would be the best way to go, with lots of emphasise on listening to different fiddle players.

Check out some discussions here too for more info:

Have a search around there for more info. All the best, hope she takes to it!:D
