especially those with scheduled recordings on dvr
    from upc.ie:
Digital+ Customers: update on Channel 6 recordings

Channel 6 is changing its name to 3e on 5 January.
    From this date:
    • the TV Information banner will display the channel name as 3e
    • the TV Guide will now display the channel name as 3e
    • Digital+ customers with recordings of programmes from Channel 6 will be unable to view these recordings – the following pop-up message will appear if you try to play these recordings from 'My Recordings': "This programme was recorded from a channel to which you are no longer subscribed. Call Customer Services to renew the appropriate channel subscription to view the programme, or else delete it to free up space." You will need to delete these recordings to free up memory space for future recordings. Please note: Recordings of programmes on 3e from 5 January will be available for customers to view as normal.

Have you actually bothered to read the forum before you posted this? There's an identical discussion already underway.

That's a bit harsh. The thread in Broadcasting is mostly about mocking the name change, while the OP is pointing out that UPC have announced their PVRs will be affected by the change.

Stupid flaw in PVR design. It shouldn't be depending on the physical channel number, textual name or frequency but a logical ID table of some sort.
Sadly the channel numbers on most Cable boxes are generated from logical data in TS directly and PIDs change all the time...

So there isn't a simple solution if you avoid channel numbers.

Just like to add that this announcement comes shortly after the PVR service is renamed to Digital+, so even if someone sees the announcement they may not realise that all their Channel 6 recordings are about to become useless.

Won't affect 99% of people here (who didn't watch Channel 6 anyway) but is going to be a nasty shock to a few.

Exactly .. nothing worth watching, and certainly nothing worth recording. A total waste of bits.
