Sky Channels Changing On Their Own

I have a sky plus box and every evening the channels are being changed by what appears to be someone else or by another external source. On occasions programmes are being recorded and in some case previously recorded programmes have been deleted. It only happens in the early hours of the morning! I have contacted sky but they appear uninterested and have suggested we can change the box. Any clues:confused:

Are you using a remote extender to transmit the remote signal and is that picking up the remote from a neighbours house ?

Something similar happens to me usually when I have the UK card in. It will change over to 0105 by itself. 5Live is a channel I do actually listen to a fair bit so I think it's just my decoder is gone a bit.

This is getting to be somewhat of a common problem if there is any DECT phones, Wii's or anything wireless even energy saving bulbs(floresent tubes) can cause interference. According to Digital Spy.

Yes I am, but it seems strange that the problem only hgappens around midnight. TRhere is no problem during the day?

With the remote extender, there is a lot less interference at night as most electronics are switched off at nighttime. You probably have someone living very close with the same set up and as they change their box, your remote extender is picking up the signal.

Only way to confirm that this is the problem is to plug out the remote extender in front of the box, at night, then if the Sky box works as normal thats the problem.

There are a few options: Turn down the sensitivity of the remote receiver by the Sky box to reduce the chance of it picking up another signal (Some have a small screw hole that allows this to be adjusted) if not possible try to shield the side that the signal may be coming from, some foil on a sheet of cardboard, facing the neighbours house. (Easy to do if the box is in the Attic - No so easy if in view)

I had this problem a few years ago and cured it by reducing the sensitivity of the receiver. If none of these work you may have to buy a different receiver which won't pick up the neighbours signal.
