Hello anyone know about ebay and the likes?
Im selling my first thing on ebay and the payment method is by paypal, the thing is I don't have a proper credit card just a 3v card and you can't be paid by that. Paypal do have my bank details, if someone buys something off me will the money go into the bank account or where?
    cheers.

    Hi all :)
By accepting PayPal you will be receiving funds from your buyers PayPal account. Using apypal allows you to accept funds from anyone with an email address in the countries that accept PayPal. Funds from them may come from their PayPal balance, credit or debit card or directly funded by their bank account. This means that you do not need to have a credit card in order to receive funds. However, if you wish to continue using PayPal as a method for accepting payment, please be aware that you will need to add a credit card in order to verify your PayPal account.

PayPal is a bank, and as such need to comply with EU banking regulations, one of which is to verify your details, including your address and ID. In Ireland presently the only option for PayPal customers is to verify their address is using a credit card. This involves PayPal debiting your credit card account with 2 small amounts (under a Euro) which will then be credited to your PayPal account on successful completion of this step. By completing this step, you are proving that you have access to the details which are registered to your account, therefore verifying your address.
As you are also aware, once funds are credited to your account you can withdraw them to the bank account which you have registered to the PayPal account, or use them to fund transactions.

I would strongly advise you to read PayPal’s user agreement thoroughly, as failure to verify your account will ultimately result in the account being limited (you will be unable to withdraw funds). Please see this link for specific details regarding the acceptance of funds through PayPal,notably section 4:
    https://www.paypal.com/ie/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/UserAgreement/ua/EUUA-outside#receive-policy
If you have any further queries don’t hesitate to ask 

Ok I see now what you mean. It says I can only take out £250 a month out of my paypal account because I have only the Personal Account. My account is verified now with a 3v card. If I get a premium account can I take out a limited amount of cash from my account?
    thank you so much!!!

    It's my pleasure Plug :)

It really does depend on how you wish to use your account on whether you want to upgrade your account to a Premier or Business account. If you plan on using your account to receive funds as a seller I would advise you to upgrade. A personal account is primarily designed for you to use as a buyer. The fees therefore will be higher to receive funds into this.
If you upgrade PayPal will require additional information from you also. You will be required to provide business information online. This is basically for PayPal’s own records, and as a fraud prevention measure, and will not be divulged to any third parties. Primarily it is to ensure that the goods you are selling are legitimate, for example if you were selling odds and ends from your house and before Christmas you placed 20 X-Boxes for sale on eBay it would raise flags.
If you have difficulties I would advise you to contact PayPal’s customer service department directly in order to receive the most appropriate information relevant to your account.

Best of luck, and I wish you lots of happy selling on eBay!!!!!!!!!!!!

quick addition - if a buyer of yours wants to send you money using a debit/credit card connected to their Paypal account then you can must upgrade from a Personal account to Premier/Business.

(and NicOda... isnt the two small deposits for the bank account verification ;) credit card verification debits a euro or pound and has the EXPUSE number)

You seem to be strongly concentrating on Paypal here..............

Remember you are selling on Ebay .. Therefore you need to pay your fees to eBay , otherwise your account will become frozen............

If you dont have credit card to pay eBay fees .you can always set up eBay in a way that their fees are taken out of your Paypal funds ....

Of course you can transfer your Paypal funds to your bank account at any time ( just allow 3/4 working days )

You can also you 3V to pay your eBay fees, so no real need of an actual credit card.

Thanks NicOda for the very useful posts.

    howdy,

I use paypal a lot and all is well, but I get a few people who want to send money by bank transfer.
How safe is it to give over a/c details and sort code to someone.
The account in question has nothing and will have nothing in it- I use it to pay my credit card.

    Thanks

    K

I assume that they are paying out ?

either way i would be weary of giving out any bank details. If cant use Paypal then i would suggest you get them to send a cheque or a money order, and wait until its deposited in the bank.

If you are the buyer in this situation then under no circumstance would i recommend you send a bank transfer. there are no guarantees atall if you do that.

Hi how did you get on with the selling? Just wondering as I think I will have to go down the 3V route. (I was an avid seller in the UK in the months leading up to my moving over here. My account was verified but unfortunately in order to change my address (and country) I had to close that account and open a new one. I am unable to verify my account as dont have a credit card (nor able to get one at the mo as haven't lived here long and currently not working looking after little one).

Does 3V actually work= allow you to sell via ebay? (I have had my ebay account for over 4 years with a feedback of over 900)

    TIA

    Fran

Yes 3v works. I have been using it to pay my eBay fees with no problems for about six months.:)

It's one of the annoying things about Ebay, they are so integrated with paypal basically because they own paypal! I see about 2-3 things a month on ebay, I just wish they had alternate methods for managing funds. e.gif
