Is my Arcos AV500 kaput?

I've got an Archos AV500. I was trying to record some stuff off the TV the other night but it kept locking up and crashing. Now, I can't even turn the thing on. When I hold down the On button, the 'On' light illuminates for as long as i hold down the button. That's all that happens though. If I release the button, the light goes back off again. I'm not hearing the hard disk starting up at all.

Now my unit's out of warranty (I bought it as a refurb 6 months ago) so I assume sending it back to Archos is a non-runner. Is there anything I can do? (apart from chucking it in the bin )

that sounds like the battery is dead ? i assume you would have checked that ?
or try plugging it in while ur turning it on, or give it an hour to charge up.

hopefully its just the battery

I don't think it's the battery (God, I wish it was!).

Did you push the reset pin?
