they aren't. not officially. it's at the discretion of the lecturers as to whether they give you a 'provisional' result or not (i.e. a broad grade, A, B, C.. they aren't allowed give a breakdown of percentages although occasionally some niceer ones 'forget' this). We assume you are querying about Christmas exam results and not the Summer exams results (released in June, dates on the http://www.nuigalway.ie/exams website when they decide them)

Only First Arts and Second Arts students receive official Semester 1 results from the Exams Office, all other students should contact their relevant departments.

You should be getting some official results (letter and/or online) going from what I found on the exams website. I don't do arts so can't say for definite but the results will probably come out at the end of January.

heh, I'm only gone 6 months and they change the way things are done already... I never got any official semester 1 results during my BA.
