Visa PAL/NTSC locked? How do I unlock?

    A mate of mine uses his vista laptop to watch dvd's. He was unaware of how you only get a few switches between PAL and NTSC - now its stuck on PAL.

    Is there a way to unlock it or reset the counter etc?
    Why do laptops do this when most DVD players are multi-region?

    Try using vlc player. It should bypass the region lock.

    Please don't link to software that cracks the copyright restriction on dvds.

    only pal is regionalised (pal region 1 - 7)

    ntsc is just a different render method.

    vlc will play both pal and ntsc videos

    No neither pal or ntsc are regions they are tv systems and dont apply to computers

    For example if you play a region free dvd on your computer it will play wether its pal or ntsc. But if its region locked it wont

    I play Reg 1 and 2 on my laptop frequently with VLC so that cant be true
