film SLR lens & digital body

Hi. I'm sure this has been asked before but sure here I go...
I have a Canon EOS 3000 film SLR with a 28-90mm lens. Both in perfect nick. I want to buy a Canon EOS digital SLR (probably a Canon EOS 1000D) body only in the hope that I can save money by popping my existing 28-90mm lens on to the digital body.

    This will work, right?

    Thanks.

(Please don't go overboard on any overly technical replies-they will be lost on me!)

The 28-90mm will work on a Canon dSLR body.

But...because of the crop factor (the digital sensor in a 1000D being smaller than a 35mm frame) the focal length will be different, it will be more like a 45mm-140mm range. This will give you more reach at the long end but you'll lose out on the wider end of the lens.

Bottom line is that it will work.

If its an EOS lens it will fit, and meter, same as on the film body. If you buy a crop body (anything lower than a 5D) the field of view visible through the lens will change, the 28mm end will be the same as 42mm on your film body.
