    If hydraulic tappets are tappety are new tappets needed or is there a easier/cheaper alternative?

    I had an 99 astra a while back with the same problem (really annoying sound). Just gave her a good oil change and solved the problem.

    Try using a good engine oil flush before removing the old oil to get rid of any carbon deposits. Get the engine up to normal working temperature and pour in the flush - leave idling for 20-30 minutes before draining and then put in your new oil and filter.
