Finding a GP

Hey guys just wondering if anyone can help. I'm not from Dublin originally but I've been living here for a while. I've been sick for a long time now and I'm going into hospital next week so it's cool that it's being sorted but I think I've come down with a chest infection now aswell. I tried to make a doctors appointment but they wouldn't see me because my family aren't registered there (but that's because my family don't live with me, they're in a different county) so I went searching online for more doctors close by and I can't find any that aren't already full with patients

It's probably a stupid question but does anyone know how to get in touch with a caredoc even?

Also, I need a GP to sign my form for the hospital so I'll need to register somewhere and since I was referred to the hospital by the health centre in college I can't contact them because it's closed until the start of next term. Does needing a GP's name on the form mean that any further info will be sent to them?

Because I'm not sure that the university's system works like a normal GP's. You can be treated and all but they don't follow things up and you get a different doctor each time you go in!

Anyway, I'm rambling.. but I need to find a doctor and I'm useless at these searches. Anyone got any help?

    Thanks:)

I once had to use the out of hours medical service (not in Dublin) and I got to see a doctor without any trouble.

    According to the TCD website:
DUBDOC (OUT OF HOURS DOCTORS COOPERATIVE)

Outside office hours in cases of emergency, students should contact DUBDOC 6pm - 10pm weekdays, 11am - 7pm weekends and Bank Holidays. The telephone number for this service is 4545607.

This service is based in St. James Hospital. Students (with the exception of Non Irish E.U. Students or Students with Medical Cards) will be responsible for any fees incurred for consultation or home visits.

I went to the doctor on O'Connell Street, Dublin 1, (beside the chemist and ulster bank near the bridge!) and he seen me. I wasn't registered with him, but maybe you could get registered??

When you called these doctors, did you start off the conversation by asking if you needed to be registered?

I don't have a doctor, but I really can't imagine being turned away if I was to call a random local doctor tomorrow? Any call I've ever made to a surgery goes like this...

me - ''hello, can I make an appointment for x time please?''

reception - ''with which doctor?'' (if more than one)

    me - ''doesn't matter''

recepetion - ''ok *checks schedule*'' etc etc'

No, I wasn't aware that I needed to be registered anywhere until the receptionist told me.

I need to have a GP's name to have on this form for the hospital though. So I'm not just talking about a once off consultation.

Thanks Firetrap and adrieanne_x aswell. :)
