NTL digital service & "time-shifting"

I watch very little TV "live" - instead I record lots of stuff on my hard-disk based recorder and watch them in the order I choose, i.e. I "time-shift" :-)

I'm currently using NTL's Analogue service (Dublin), but considering switching to Digital (since it's now €5 a month cheaper!)

While there are many advantages to switiching (extra channels, widescreen format, better picture quality?), the possible disadvantages are:

    * If I set my disk based recorder to record a digital channel (e.g. BBC 4) at a particular time, can I also set the NTL digital decoder to automatically switch to that channel at that time?
    - If so, since my recorder can be set to record 30 different programs, can the decoder also be set to switch to 30 difference channels at different times?
    - If so, does the decoder prevent you from accidentally switching digital channels while it is recording?
    - If not, can I achieve the above by getting NTLs "Digital+" recorder (are there any specs for it online?), and possibly also record simultaneously from an Analogue channel using my current recorder?

    * While it's recording BBC4, can I still watch an analogue channel (e.g. BBC1) live?

    * If I take a (half)day off work to get it installed, what are the chances the NTL engineer will turn up on that day?

    * I had another question, but I've forgotten it...
