Graphics Card Question -Dell XPS M170 nVidia GeForce Go 6000 Ultra

I seem to have the same issues as you with my Dell Inspiron 9400 and a nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS.

I wanted to send my card to an apparently German speaking company called Notebook Service Reiner. The problem is that they're located on the Netherlands Antilles, however, their eBay profile shows 99.8% positive comments. Uklaptops-co-uk profile isn't bad either but located in the UK which simply sounds better.

Here are two links for comparison, again in German:

I'd say I'll give the UK guys a try as I'm travelling to Belfast next week and could post the graphic card cheaper and quicker when I'm there. My main problem will be if I can remove the card in one piece without breaking the heat pipes. Luckily there are loads of manuals including on YouTube which show how to open the laptop and remove various parts. It remains the critical part of the repair. Well, they accept complete laptops and would do the rest themselves at no extra cost, so that might me an option if I fail to remove the card. That would be my last choice though...

    Hi guys,

Can I recommend you do not use uklaptops.co.uk?

I purchased 11 laptops from them last year, all 11 failed within 24 hours - 2 months, every single one was with a graphics failure, cards they repaired initially (using the same scheme you are suggesting) failed subsequently later again. The computers were Dell XPS M170s, M1710s and Inspiron 9400s.

I currently have a County Court Judgment against them (which has been accepted). They were replying to my messages before but no longer do so.

I would highly recommend you do not use them, and if it is your only choice, think twice before you do. As the money you spend may give you a working card for a couple of months maximum (significantly less if you tax it with gaming). Notice how their 'warranty' period is not very long at all.

I don't want to see anyone else stung by them.

I've got an fx2500 card which will fit the m1710 etc. for sale.
I picked it up in the states last year as an upgrade for my 7900gs but it's still sitting in a cupboard.
Here's a link which discusses it:

Not sure of pricing till I research it a bit again!

I sent a 6800 go ultra to UK Laptops before Christmas. His communications were a disaster, he charged me £40 postage and then sent the card by snail mail. It took so long to get here I bought and fitted an ATI X300 to my laptop. Just last week I saw an M170 with a bad graphic card on ebay so I bought it thinking all I had to do was fit my repaired card to it. Well the UK laptop card is faulty. I don’t know about the German company but stay well away from UK Laptops

i have had my dell e1705 for 3 yrs and has been trouble free until last week when my geoforce 7800 card failed.

i looked on the net for about a week and bought another geoforce card of ebay for 120 pounds. That card was refurbised by dell in feburary and should arrive by monday.

the cheapest card i coould find was about 150 euro a 128 mb ati from hong including posage

and the dearest were tehe 512mb fx 3500s from the states for upto 800$

but the big problem that i had was that the most warrenty i could get was 90 days

I now want to refurbish my current card, has anyone had their cards refurbished outside of warrenty? and how much does it cost.

Iv have seen the german add on the previos posts for 150 euro, is that the going rate or is there cheaper

and has anyone had their cards refurbished outside of warrenty?

Her's a link to a ATI X1400 in Hong Kong ending today. ebay no. 380114214181 no bids yet. The faster Nvidia card all seem to give trouble

    After a lot of searching

i eventually bought a geoforce 2 go 7900, that was refurbished by dell in feburary

the card cost 130 pounds delivered on ebay

i also dwnloaded a fan control program

    http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html

which helps keep the temps on the graphics card a few degrees lower
