I'm looking to get a PS3 console. Much better value from England etc. Has anyone bought from English stores/online and got it shipped.

    It'd be a long treck.
I will be in Dublin next weekend so I could look at getting up north the Sunday. Would the deals in N Ireland be as good as online?

since the ps3 is so heavy it the postage would probably be fairly expensive.

for what you spend traveling to north, it wouldnt be worth your while,
i'd say just put the hand in the pocket, its a worthwhile investment

They don't deliver electrical equipment here at all as far as I know,

    TheHut.co.uk & shopto.net will ship PS3 to Ireland AFAIK.

TheHut is free delivery but selling PS3 at RRP, shopto.net is selling PS3 for cheaper but you pay by weight for the PS3.

Amazon won't even ship games to Ireland either. They'll ship Blu Ray movies and DVD's but for some f**ked up reason won't ship games.

Edit: Turns out some games sold directly by amazon don't ship to Ireland but the ones from Merchant sellers do.

Get it shipped from N.I to keep the costs down. Have a look on the websites of electrical stores up there even, coz if you decide to get one, the trek could save ya a few bob in postage.

AFAIK HMV.co.uk will ship them to the Ireland.

    Theyve a PS3 (80gb) with LBP, Resitance 2 and Fifa 09 for ~300euro.

Not in stock at the moment though

HMV won't ship anything over 1KG to Ireland.
    Good deal though!

They're great for most games ,got pacific rift for €25 total incl postage. You can choose sterling before you add to basket.

Chanced my arm with hmv and ordered cod5+ps3 and metal gear 4 for 330 with delivery, the order went through but i found out today that id left out a letter on my email address >:( checked the order status and i got this payment authorisation failure thing and contact customer service...they have no customer service in ireland!:mad: Anyone else try this? Payment authorisation failure sounds like a problem with the credit card not them saying they wont ship it, in hmv in cork today and the same thing would cost well over 400!

I won't use them again anyway. Scalped me on the conversion rate (They wouldn't take Stg, auto converted to Euro), then added extra shipping, despite having an amount on their website for international shipping for games. Then scalped me again on the exchange for the shipping!!!

Don't know what your on about there ,heres what you have to do .

You must register on the site before you add to basket.
After you log in to the site ,your default currency is euro. Before you add to basket ,you click on the sterling/union jack icon.

I've bought three games so far from that site ,
    Motorstorm pacific rift ,19.99 + 3.50 = €25
    Resistance fall of man ,9.99 + 3.50 = €14.50
Call of duty ,world at war ,37 + 3.50 = £40.50 but I only bought it yesterday and haven't checked the conversion rate on my card.

It's a great site as far as I'm concerned and deliveries are almost like buying from ireland.

I knew what to do. They have obviously changed it - As you can see from the way they handled my shipment, they wouldn't have done much business internationally if they didn't. Their Customer service was shocking as well, all they were doing was contradicting themselves as to what they were doing and why. Too much competition around to get caught a second time, IMO.

In fact it was 12 months ago, and just for pig-iron I dug out one of the emails from them:

"I can see why you are confused and its something that we have put as a
priority to fix to make it more clearer on the website.

Is there no way to check your statement quickly? As I do need the confirmed
payment amount so I can confirm it with the team and make sure any
discrepancies are cleared up as soon as possible (including and not limited to
if you were somehow over charged by any amount)

    Regards
    Shopto"

They couldn't even check to see which currency they had billed me in. They charged me €6.99 for shipping, despite it being quite clear on their website that shipping was £3.50 - and they said I was confused.......

I'm sure you're not. I had a serious problem with them, I have shown how serious it was. They don't get a second chance for me. Thats the end of it really. Too much competition out there to use a company who can't tell you how much, or what currency they have deducted from your credit card. It was until weeks ago a bloody nightmare to get taken off their email notification list too.

Your issue seemed to be about €4 ,I'm sure it's annoying being overcharged by that amount.
But they are in fairness one of the cheapest sites at the moment for some games.

Silly question but does anyone know if the newer PS3s [80GBs and 160GBs] are still region free?

I'm in the States right now and was thinking of picking one up [I have to get my Street Fighter 4 fix] and bringing it back to Ireland with me.

Careful! They are region free but only for PS3 games! Your PAL DVDs, Blue-Rays and PS2 games will not work on it! Also, some PS3 games won't work on a standard definition CRT TV. As I found out to my peril!! :(

This is a fact. I bought an NTSC 60GB PS3 on eBay. Worked fine on some games, then I bought GTAIV and booted it up only to find that the output from the console was not compatible with my PAL CRT TV. Had to buy a HDTV.

True. But believe me the majority in your local videostore are encoded for Europe.
