    Hi folks,

I am going away to foreign lands tomorrow and i promised a pal i would take him over a cheap netbook with xp similar to mine. I have the Acer Atom One which has 1gb RAM, 120gb hard disk and XP.

He is looking for similar but i see newer versions now with 160gb hard disk and they are bit too pricey.

He wants me to pick one up here as he wants English manuals, keyboard etc.

Samsung NC10 is king of the netbooks at the minute (mainly due to it's 6 hour + battery life). It's €399 in PC World / Currys, pretty sure you won't get it much cheaper unless you buy it online which it doesn't look like you have time too :D

MSI Wind is also held in high regard by netbook fanatics but it'll be a similar price to the NC10 so i'm guessing slightly too much.

Apart from that, honestly, there isn't much between the EEE Pc's, Acer One's or Advents / Lenovo's only looks.

Most manufacturers now have a netbook or two on their lines and you'll find most come with atom 1.6 Ghz, 1gig RAM, 80-160gb HD, memory card reader, webcam. Bluetooth isn't standard on most.

Most also have a 3 cell battery, the NC10 has a 6 cell so again that's something to look out for.

Theres little difference between a lot of the netbooks in their own categories (10.2" screen, atom processor, ram and so on). Battery life, wireless connectivity (b,g or N) and keyboard are the main ones.

Samsung laptop is well regarded as smemon mentioned.

Thee Eee 1000h is probably easier to get though and is an excellent little netbook with good support. I've had one for 6 months now and I'm very happy with it for a variety of uses. Should be a bit cheaper in price now too with all the competitiors out there and easy enough to find. If you were going through the UK airports you would it cheaper than here at the moment too.

Samsung nc10 or the advent 4211C. Both great machines. The samsung has about twice the battery life though.
