Buying from a camera shop for more?

About buying a new SLR. I was wondering if there's any advantage in buying a camera in a store for much higher price than online?
Camera Center has the EOS 1000D listed for €500. Which is about €50-100 more than the internet price but they're giving this voucher for a free training course for the camera worth €150. Which i'm not sure how useful and worthwhile the course is...

So what would you guys recommend?
Should i spend the €100ish more and get it from the store avoiding the wait, hassle and unreliability of buying online with the free voucher for that course.
Or should i save myself the €100ish and stop being impatient and get it online...??

    It's up to you really.

You can get a 10 week course for €100.

All depends on whether you will do the course, and if the course is worth doing.

Personally, if I had the extra money to spend, I'd spend it online on a flash,or the nifty fifty, or extra memory or a spare battery or any combination of these.

EDIT: If you bought it off Komplett, you can save the money, and probably collect it today.

it probably depends on what type of a buyer you are - if you have a preference on having a face that you can see the whites of their eyes before parting with a wad of notes or whether you don't mind dealing with a sterile computer in some far away land. The camera should be the same - assuming reputable online suppliers are used.

The brick n mortar joints may offer better service (not the electrical superstore but the cons cameras, camera centres of the world). You'll pay the premium which is essentially a more expensive operating model than the online place.

Me? I've dealt with online vendors and have had no problem but what i've bought thus far hasn't required a product return.

Beware that you are liable to pay import duties if purchasing outside of the EU. Although there are some legendary stories out there, I think at present far more gets charged than not. The sterling rate presently makes the UK attractive for online purchases too.

The Komplet offer mentioned above seems that you won't get much better though.

Or go to Belfast into the shop for reduced prices. You'll get the best from the both worlds :)
That is also my plan. Just to figure out what shall I buy first.

Gunn's of Wexford street do be a little bit cheaper than other shops although not as cheap as online obviously.

Gunns only deal in canon and nikons which is no use to me

Komplett is about €50 cheaper than the store prices. Its a difference but not that big i'ld say...
the other dealers either don't seem to have it in stock currently or seem to have bad service (pixmania) and i don't think i'll be able to go up north as i don't have much transport around...

I think i'm gonna head into town now and look around if i can get a good price anywhere and if any store is generous enough to give me students discount!

I would go and buy it in off one of the retailers in Ireland.
If you shop around, you are bound to get a good deal from one of the Irish shops.

2 Reasons to buy from Gunns/ Conns/ Camera Centre etc.

    - Training Course is really good - I know a lot of people who went on it - check out the link here - http://www.iop.ie/canon/ - if you want to see what it covers

    - If you buy the EOS 1000D before 12th Jan, you can get €40 CashBack -
    http://www.canon.co.uk/eoscashback/

Overall, that's a saving of €190 by buying from a retailer in Ireland. :)

If you do have a problem with the camera, it's always easier to go back to the retailers shop rather than emailing a website and hoping for a reply.
