Going to London in Feb with the GF. Has anyone got any recommendations for a hotel?
We are early 20s, the hotel doesn't have to be fancy, just clean and comfortable, and within easy access of touristy things!
    We are on a budget.

I tried to google it, but I'm just getting a mountain of info and its hard to tell the good from the bad. If anyone has any personal advice, I;d be very grateful.

All depends on your budget really.

The Jurys inn in Islington has good rates during the off-peak season. 5minutes to Angel tube, Islington is a really trendy part of the city, tons of bars and restaurants within a 5minute walk of the hotel. Definetly worth checking out if the price is right.

Another great hotel which would be slightly more pricy than a travelodge is the Premier Travel Inn at county hall. Fantastic location, literally beside the London Eye and across Westminster bridge from Big Ben and the houses of parliament, clean and really comfortable rooms. Real picture postcard location but in the evenings you will have to travel on the tube to get to any decent restaurants or nightlife as after dark the area quietens down.

Stayed at the Travelodge Southwark in November. Completely cheap and cheerful, rooms clean and it only opened in summer 2008.2minute walk from Southwark tube and 10minutes from the Tate Modern. While its not the Ritz, if your on a budget i'd say its ideal.Several bars and restaurants around the corner from the tube station.

Wherever you find check out their reviews on the Trip advisor website. A majority of the reviews give a pretty good idea of what to expect.

We stayed in the St Georges hotel in Langham Place. Where is that I hear you ask?

Its 500 mtrs up from Oxford Street on upper Regent Street. If you know London, where Nike Town USA is which is basically the centre of London for shopping(not the shop, the location). We stayed there 3 nights. The rooms are a good size, plasmas, nice continental breakfast.

I used http://www.1800hotels.ie to book it as I do with all my hotels unless cheaper direct.

Excellent location and no need for tubes unless you need to go someplace else. We went to Harrods(bought only Christmas decorations) and had to get two tubes but we love the tube. The tube is at the corner of Oxford Street and Regent Street 500 mtrs walk.

Thanks a million guys, I will check out those places later. I've certainly got a few options now anyway. Thats a big help because I've never been to London before.
I think we will be flying into Stansted. Or would you reccommend a different airport? Which is the most convenient?

    lastminute.com and londontown.com are handy I find

Hilton's seem to be cheap these days - try the Kensington or Olympia

The Radisson Vanderbilt is usually reasonable on londontown.com too

    IBIS Euston is good

    Or Holiday Inn Hammersmith

The express trains from Stansted and Gatwick can be north of 25pounds so its worth factoring this into your choice of airport. Luton is a bit of pain to get to as you have to get a shuttle bus to the luton rail station.
Ryanair check in at Stansted gets a bit manic on Sunday evening

If you fly to Heathrow you can get the tube into london on a all day ticket which is around 7pounds so Heathrow can work out much better value. Also bmi who fly from Dublin-Heathrow still have free checked in baggage.

Personally I' usually end up going for Gatwick, if Heathrow is too expensive. Flights to their on Aer Lingus and Ryanair are normally pretty cheap and if you use the Southern trains from Gatwick to London Victoria, 5minutes longer than the gatwick express but much cheaper.

If you have never been to London before you will love it. Loads to do and bags more character than New York can ever offer.

Stayed here and its a lovely Hotel. The breakfast is particularly good and you're very near (5 mins walk) the Gloucester Road tube station which is on the Piccadilly, Circle and District lines.

If travelling from Stansted get your Stansted Express train tickets on line on the Ryanair website, you'll save yourself a few quid.

We stayed in Farringdon, about ten mins walk from Kings Cross station. About a 2 star but clean and cheap. Transport by oyster card.

I'd recommend anywhere near paddington/ hyde park / marble arch? you're near enough to walk/bus it to oxf st, see hyde park, experience Kensington or pop on a bus (148 - i am a bus geek) to buckingham palace/big ben area :)

Hyde Park Towers looks nice, just seen it on here (planning romantic break with the boyfriend at the mo) http://www.hotelclub.ie/valentines/ - around €60 for a double isnt bad? :)

Ok, I need advice on London!

Planning on going to London for Easter but finding it very hard to get a hotel. We are going to see tourist attractions.. London Eye, Madame Tussauds, Big Ben, etc.. and need hotel close to most of attractions. What areas are best to look up?

Flying from Dublin to Gatwick, anyone recommend hotels that are near any of the above.

    Thanks in advance

Use the London megathread, don't raise dead threads.
