    Hi everyone

We just bought a Sony BRAVIA KDL-32W4000 with built in freeview. We can only receive 13 Digital channels. It says we need a Cam card to receive other channels, can anyone explain to us where to get this Card in order to get Freeview working or is it not possible in Dublin at all?
    Thank you for your help!

    bonn:confused:

What 13 digital channels are you receiving? I would be amazed if you can get Freeview in Dublin.

That Sony has a "Digital TV Cable Tuner", so i reckon the "freeview" channels are those on the UPC network which are not encrypted...

So giving an answer might break forums rules....

There is no free cable TV. For Cable TV you need to use the UPC supplied box. There may be time to time un-encrypted channels on Cable.

Via aerial in Dublin there is generally only 4 channels via DTT on a test basis till later in 2009. Some pay channels may be added in the summer.

Freeview = UK aerial based 30 channels approx using MPEG2 DTT
Freesat = Dish based free TV via satellite, similar to FTA (Free to Air) but with auto tuning, interactive and program guide like sky. About 40 decent Tv and 20 decent radio out of 250+ & 70+ free TV & Radio.

Your TV has a CI, a slot. This takes a CAM, a device to read a viewing card. UPC (ex Chorus / NTL) do not authorise user fitted CAM for TV for their viewing card. You have to use their box. In theory with a cam and an official UPC cable subscription you could use their viewing card in a TV instead of the UPC box. This would not be "Theft of service" as per illegal set-boxes, but is against UPC Terms & Conditions because people have abused the cable service.

So theoritically, if one (not me) were to connect the digital cable directly into the TV and take the card from the STB, which CAM would one (not me) decide to buy to enable this to happen? Sorry for going all Cable on the Terrestrial forum.

A one compatible with UPC, ideally supplied by UPC. Read the Charter of the Cable TV/IPTV/MMDS subforum.

1st smartalec comment gets poster banned. I *KNOW* some of you know.

(Obviously I know too, though I don't work for UPC. I even have a Cable HeadEnd and Motorola Cable set box for tests, but unencrypted as I'm not too concerned about that).

    Magic!

We are now moved to Cable forum to make it easier to read the rules :)
