Have a look through the first 3 pages or so of this forum. Tons of similar questions on gear, advice on various resorts etc. It can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be - depending on where you go.

My advice for first or any-timer, is to consider the transfer times, I prefer to go somewhere within 60-90 minutes transfer time, don't like spending 3-4 hours travelling after I've gotten off the flight.

If there's a small group, then a private transfer can work out at only a little more expensive than a coach transfer & is far more comfortable.

I won't repeat all thats been said here already on gear, flights, resorts etc.

i only got back today from my first ski trip!!!

i went to livigno with top flight. i was told this was great place for beginners and i though it was. great sceanary, great instructors, great ski routes for beginners and most of all great night life and apres ski:D

i have to say its the best holiday i have ever gone on in my life and if done sky diving holidays before!!!! i cant remember exactly but the flights, accomadation, ski lessons, ski rental and lift pass cost around €1300.

a friend of mine skies regular so i was able to borrow some gear of off him but my girlfriend had to buy hers she got the trousers in great outdoors and the jacket in tk max they normally sell all last seasons gear off in early october.

    i would defo go again!!:D

Try Soldeu in Andorra for your first ski trip.

Excellent schools and all tutors speak English.

If buying gear wait till Aldi or Lidl have their 'specials' on. Their is nothing wrong with the gear they sell. Stay away from the other highstreet shops unless they have good deals - they will rip you off.

If you can book it yourself go for it - been doing that for years now and save about 25% to 40% on the price of our ski holiday. If going tru a travel company expect to pay about €1000 to €1300 for your first ski trip. Most of the travel companies have web sites so it will give you an idea on cost.

    Hope this helps.

Andorra seems to be pretty cheap Few of the friends booked a trip few days ago in Arinsol, Andorra. €640 in a 4* hotel half board, ski school and passes included Pretty good I thought
I was there last year an all the instructors were either english or spoke very good english so twas good. It's pretty good place for learning Not the very bottom of the slope but once you move up a bit its good
