Blending an image to background

    Hi

This might be the wrong place to ask but!

I need to make some custom powerpoint backgrounds.

Basically the effect I need is where an image such as the one below, the edge blurs to the background colour, eg. where the blue space is on the left, there would be a maybe diagonal line down towards left which blurs to the background colour.

Anyone an easy way to do this in photoshop or maybe illustrator preferable as I will be doing other graphics in this.!

    Thanks in advance!

Your goal seems a bit vague, or else I just dont get it, can you explain it any better?

 Do you mean you want the branches cloned out of the left hand side?

I think you need a transparency mask.

Here is an example of the effect I wish to achieve.

The image on the left fades to the background and this is what I wish to do.

Basically I will make a background such as this in illustrator or photoshop and then use it in powerpoint on a slide!

There are two ways of doing something you have described. The first is to get the colour sample of requred background and then paint it with a soft brush.
And the second is to blur the picture area into soft mess.
Both could be done in few seconds. If you could post original picture, I bet few people here would try to do it.
