Social Clubs

There are no social clubs in Dublin at all for people in their 30s (or any age) and if one does pop up once in a blue moon it's always in the city center. I am female so I would be reluctant to go into the city on my own at night to meet a bunch of strangers and then have to get home afterwards. As I am from the southside of Dublin, I want to know if there are any out the Dun Laoghaire way or surrounding areas. I would find it less daunting and would be more prepared to head out there on my own because I know the area better and feel safer.

I actually don't like the phrase "social club" because from the one or two I have experienced in the acient past, they attract weirdos, every misfit in society lands on their doorstep. But just a group in their 30s who would be interested in meeting for the cinema, theatre, walks, a drink, a meal, maybe organise a little celebration or party now and again, at Christmas or whatever - an alternative to the club scene which I was never interested in.

I've read a lot of threads on lonliness and people with no friends etc, but nobody really seems to have any answers for those who don't find it easy to just go out and socialise like friends grow on trees or something. Perhaps a group of girls on this board could form a group or a couple of groups north & southside. At least it would be a positive step, something is being done and it's better than us all moaning here !

That sounds like something I'd be interested in too... not into pubs and clubs either.

Can we have a show of hands - anyone else?! :P

I've seen threads in the ladies lounge where they organise meet ups

Although have never been myself, and intend to one day :) you should probably try and make it to Boards Beers at some stage. No idea when the next one is on but am sure some kindly Boardsie can point you in the right direction.

Also, if you join www.meetup.com, you can check events in your locality too.

Have been working on this myself for a few months OP, I've proposed a forum dedicated to it and everything. I lived in dublin for only a few months over the summer but i had a blast bringing people out and meeting up with others and as a result I've alot more friends and I even landed myself a girlfriend.

Am using a shameless plug for support of my forum here but hey, if it works it could help :D

    link here :)
