timber flooring to match varnished skirting

I want to replace the flooring in my hall from carpet to timber flooring.

I love the dark American woods, like cherry. However my skirting, door surrounds and stairs are varnished timber. I think it's red deal - the basic timber finish put on most new homes. The colour is a little waxy looking and I was wondering if dark flooring would clash badly with this timber finish.

If I change the timber finish in the hall to match a dark timber floor then I'll have to change everything and the stairs. :(
