Gus, I;m building up a new bike an wanted to get some ideas of a groupset to use. I was planning to use 105 bu I'm thinking that there might be something from campag around a similar price bracket. I have a budget of €300 total for the groupset (not including wheels) and I would prefer silver finish.

I don't mind if the set I get is 2007 version in anything as its really just a bike for a trainer nd possibly commuting. I need to have a clamp on front derailluer (31.8mm clamp on).

    Any ideas?

If going compag .. the only option would be veloce in the price range ... and you have to go for the 2009 version. And for 2009 .. that would still be the lowest compag offer.

If you are thinking of 105 ... I would definitely consider Ultegra ... the price difference is about 20% ... so definitely worth it ... best bang for buck ... me thinks.

Also .. do not rule out the SRAM Rival .... costs about the same as Ultegra ... but nearly Durace levels of performance and weight

Veloce, like 105, is finished in black. From the current line up, Centaur is the only one with a mostly silver finish and it's probably a bit pricier than you're looking for.

If it were me, I'd get the current Centuar shifters or some pre-2007 Centaur or Veloce shifters, and match them with a hodge-podge of other silver Campag stuff.

My 105 is finished in silver. Don't think there's been any updates to it in recent times.

My bad. Black is new, but they're keeping the silver.

I know -- all these options keeping costs down is important. I'm trying to find a good price / performance option and I think 105 is the best. I've another bike with Ultegra SL so really I wanto to get Chorus 11 and swap the old stuff over but don't think I can afford that today.

The black actually looks really nice.

My 10sp Veloce is silver. Bought a couple of months ago, not sure if it was 08 or 09.

IMO Campag cranks are prettier than Shimano, which is why I chose Veloce.

For VFM, 105 is great though. Got it on the Focus Mares, and it's works very well.

Also still not convinced about Ergopower shifting. I like being able to shift multiple cogs in one go, which you can't do with Ergopower. Shifting across from the big to small chainring involves far too much button pressing for my liking.

You've probably got the 2007/2008 Veloce shifters? They did away with this 'feature' again this year for all groups.
