"Beating the rush"

I got my first Happy Noo Year text at 2pm today so as to 'beat the rush tonight'. Steady flow since then, will probably get only one or two after midnight.

Its happy new year, not happy the day before new year. Surely if you don't want to send a text at midnight, you have the following 24 hours to do so.

It's getting earlier every year, anyone beat my 2pm? Have yiz all sent yours already?

Do the mobile networks actually go down or at best become erratic? For texts in particular, maybe delivering hours later?
Seen it reported on the news some year but I've not exactly tested it

Edit: To add an example on the 7/7 bombings in London the mobile networks collapsed from overuse.
Now I'm not trying to compare this to midnight NYE in Ireland but do the networks run into problems?

Usually there's a delay in texts coming through and there will be pockets of time where you can't get through to people.

Not sure about the technical thingymajigs of it all.

Got my first one around 4pm.

Got 2 really odd ones from people who obviously had the wrong number.. one was very funny.

Havent bothered sending any to friends, did reply to the ones i got. I prefer to ring people when they have hangovers in the morning.

I've been getting and sending them myself on and off throughout the day. It makes sense.

Yep, but it's nothing to do with over-use, the networks just do it to piss people off.

Got one from my grandmother this morning. Very surprised, as she has issues even answering the mobile, nevermind texting. All the same, it was cute.

I'm not bothering with texts for new years. Couldn't be ar$ed, if I'm honest.

I sent mine about 7 p.m. so that people would have them before 12. I don't see a problem with it. A good wish is a good wish regardless of what time it comes at.

    it is....

Sprawling on the fringes of the city
    In geometric order
    An insulated border
    In between the bright lights
    And the far unlit unknown

Texts worked ok at midnighti. Must be the recession.

I always type my own - just something like 'wishing you and your family a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year', but I received a load of what I would call 'chain texts', that are weird, about the 'sun setting on one year, and the moon rising for another' or something about that. They drive me nuts!

    How do you know that?
