Did this today and it was a good race.

Dont know whether it was the Christmas indulgences but I found it very tough. Did it in 21.29 by my watch which I was delighted with (wanted sub 22). Nice course but my god I thought I was going to get sick on the final straight:D

Just out of interest what sort of heart rate measurements do people usually get when running 5k races?

Good stuff I did it in 23 3?. I can't speak for everyone especially cause I'm a good bit overweight but my heart rate was averaging 180. My max was 193 according to my garmin forerunner.

Time to loose the pounds and get fit :D

I finished in 23 minutes on the dot. Was happy eoungh as I had a late night last night, but stayed off the gargle.
Thought I was stone mad to be running at the start, felt really tired and cold, but you can't beat the feeling of satisfaction at the end of the race. Great way to start the new year/

20:10 for myself. Great course and great weather and a great way to kick of the new year.
I ran todays race with an average HR of 89% which for me is 182 bpm and a max of 194, I have run them in the past were I'm more at 91% of MHR.

Congrats to all who ran today

Well done Woddle...good going after the festivities and you should break 20 pretty handily this year.

I asked about the heart rate because my Garmin says that I was at 96% max from about one mile on which I though was very high.

P.S. What was the name of those supplements you told us about Woddle?

was a good race on a very fair day...that finishing straight doesn't get any shorter does it:rolleyes:

they say on liffey valley website that results will be up shortly and they're normally pretty good about that.......

ran my same time as last yr....16-40 ish so not much changes in a year lol.......

Glucosamine and Chrondoitin, I swear by them, I also take a vit c supplement also. What I think is the problem with you getting a reading of 96% is that your max is a little more than what you think it is. On yout training centre software what reading did you get today for your max HR for todays race, as your max HR won't be too far of this number providing you went all out in the rave. For example my Hr reached a max of 194 in todays race but I know my MHR is 199 if not a little more. I think theres a few threads about calculating your MHR but I reached 199 at a recent race so I use this figure. Well done yourself on your time.

I used the method of max heart rate in a 5k + 5 BPM..my max today was 195 and so Im assuming 200bpm. Your probably right though I imagine thats not the most accurate measure.

How did your mile splits go Woddle? You looked good at the start today...I lost you pretty quickly;)

Havent really thought about it Woddle.

I think Ill I just focus on training for the next couple of months and see how that goes and then Ill decide in March whether to do Dublin or stay focused on the shorter stuff.

Ive never really done speedwork before so Im going to start easing that into my training and see how it goes.

You doing the Raheny 5 mile?

Been a while since I've seen DCH winning a team comp. The Gebrezgi girls with a 1-2.

A few pics of todays race were posted by robinph - they're on racepix365.com. I was running so didn't take any. I saw loads of people taking pictures mind... I thought it best not to throw cards at them as I was running... probably wouldn't be the safest thing in the world. They're will hopefully be a few more pictures over the next few days up there.

I'm still uploading more at the moment but I got a bit delayed due to a computer crash earlier. With any luck the rest will be uploaded overnight, assuming I don't have another crash...

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

...seems that my laptop did crash again as I know there was another shot of Woddle queued to upload and it hasn't appeared online yet. I'll have to give my PC a stern talking to when I get back this evening and, then the rest of the pics will be uploaded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭Stupid_Private

Wahey - for the first time on the site I've been caught on camera... granted I'm not the centre of attention in the shot... but I'm still there!!

I think you must be in another shot from looking at the picture numbers, but for some reason I decided not to upload it. There were a few completely rubbish out of focus ones though so that could have been why, I'll check it out again this evening though and see how bad a picture it was.

Got up at 1500 yesterday after overdosing on rum etc so no 5k for me.At least there's another 363 days left to run this yr!

Yup, the missing picture of Stupid_Private is just a blurry mess, must be because you were running so fast. I did manage to get the road sign and spectators in the background to show up nicely in a few pictures though. :o

Anyway, all of the half decent pictures that I took are now online for everyones viewing pleasure. :)
