So I got all my new gear together today, dressed myself up and took my new bike, and my pioneering ass for its first long spin, took me under just under 2 hours to do 50km, mind you Im fairly wiped out now. think I was a little too ambitious, but feel good for it. So two questions, was that really slow? and can anyone recommend some kind of regime to break me in and get me fit?cheers

just under 25kph, not shabby at all.
Get fit regime: up your distance by 10% a week, but don't forget to take rest days.

what would be a good distance to start at? and how many times a week would be good, to be honest I made it but the 50 was definitely a push

Drop back to 30km and build from there. If you can do your long spin on Saturday or Sunday, then take the next two days off. Do a shorter spin during the week and then you will be well rested and ready for your increased longer weekend spin. One you get stronger you can go out more often and for longer. Remember though, rest days are very important.

so if i did say 30k on the weekend and a couple of 20's during the week building them all up by 10 % each week would that be a good idea?I also need a speedo, would this be ok http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ls.aspx?ModelID=4941

If you are in Dublin, come along for a Boards Saturday spin, we average well less than 25km/h although generally it does involve going up hills. You would be surprised though how much easier it is to go further with a group.
