New HTPC Build - HDCP issues

I have just completed a new HTPC build. Its not the one i wanted to build but due to Komplett constantly pushing out my delivery dates I cancelled with them and sourced what I could elsewhere as I wanted to build it during the holidays.

    Build is
    Antec Fusion Max case
Intel DG45ID Board (G45 express with on board X4500HD Graphics subsystem, DVI and HDMI, 7.1 sound.)
    Intel P Core Duo quad Q8200 2,3Ghz
    4 GB Ram
    Pioneeer BDC 202 Blu-Ray/DVD RW
    Vista Home Prem SP1
    Samsumg F1 Spinpoin 1 TB
Terratec Cinergy S2 (satellite TV card)

I also managed to get hold of the Vista MCE TV PACK.

I used an LG 32" TV during the build, I could never establish a signal via the HDMI port so the whole build was completed over DVI/VGA. The LG is around 2 years old. It is 720P/1080i tv.

As the Pioneer was OEM I had no software so I installed Arcsoft Totalmedia Theatre as this was reviewed well on various websites and is also recommended by Intel. Blu Ray disks played fine over the DVI port on the LG.

I moved the system into my main room which has a 42" Philips (also 720P/1080i) with 2 x HDMI and 1 x HD component, no DVI or VGA. System synched up on HDMi with out any problems and the PC desktop looked great as did web surfing and playback of xvid and divx content.

Blu-Ray disks are a different issue. Once past the introduction parts of a disk Totalmedia Theatre tells me that my setup is not HDCP compliant and playback is halted.

I installed a GeForce 9600 card which I took from my main PC and connected it it to the HD component inputs on the TV and Blu-ray played back fine but standard web and desktop were not good so I un-installed it.

After searching various forums, faqs etc I decidec to download a trial verstion of Slysoft AnyDVD HD. This has cured the playback problem although my TV was jumping from 720P to full screen all through The dark Knight, I dont know if this is a HDCP signalling error or not.

All in all this has not been a happy experience. The worlds of Blu-Ray, Vista and HDMI seem a long way apart to me,,, .

As for the Satellite card... Media centre can see, downloads channelso for it but I have yet to see a station displayed through media centre.... It works fine using its own software. I haven't put a lot of time into this as it may not be my final choice of TV input.

You need a HDCP compliant GFX card or Mobo to view protected content. your mobo has it in Intel Viiv, but i have a G35 chipset mobo and has hdcp problems with Nero Showtime, but none with PowerDVD or WinDVD. My trouble is solved using a HDCP compliant Nvidia 8500GT. Is your GFX card HDCP compliant?

The Dark Knight is filmed that way, assuming full screen means the black bars go from the top and bottom of screen. These scenes are filmed for IMAX cinema screens and have been put on the blu ray disc that way.
Discussion of AnyDVD breaches the forum rules.

As mentioned, it looks like your graphics card or mobo or both are not hdcp compliant or you have not loaded some manufacturer driver maybe?

That is absolutely bonkers. Thanks for the tip, any other movies like that?

did you try a bios update for you mobo?

Buy the way this mobo is HDCP compliant. I would update bios, GPU and chipset drivers. Also look for firware for the bluray drive.

download this. it might give you more info http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/bd-support/diagnosis.do
