    Hi,

I don't normally post in this section, but I just watched The Bourne Identity for the first time (apparently I've been living under a rock for the past number of years - that and spending every weekend in the cinema with an ex seriously put me off the flicks for a LONG time), but OH MY GOD, it was bloody amazing...........going to watch the second one tomorrow and the third one on Friday.........so no spoilers please...........

it's a long time since a character grabbed me like this........and my mother would watch it every night and this is a woman that doesn't DO DVDs.........seriously considering buying the DVDs for my own house.........

One of the few trilogies were every film is very good.
I think the 1st is the best, the 3rd the second best and the 2nd the worst, with hardly anything between them.

I had watched the first in the cinema and loved it but hadn't go around to watching the others.

then for xmas my brother got me the trilogy so I set aside a few hours and watched them back-to-back. what a night

I tried to watch The Bourne Identity one day and it was so boring. I see it is on RTE next Wednesday so I'll give it another go. They still seem very over-rated to me though.

I've only read the first book but I thought it was much better than the Bourne Identity.

I thought I was the only person in the world who didn't enjoy the Bourne films.

I have a particular hatred of the super fast editing on the second & third movies that make me feel nauseous.

Dull storyline as well. Just my opinion of course ;)

Can't get enough of the bloody series! There's supposed to be a fourth film coming out, still wondering if I like that idea!

I always seen the Bourne series as like the Bond series in so far as they can keep it going as long as they like really.

Lets face it the second and third films were not really necessary (especially the third) but they were still amazing and I loved every second.

Okay so if they make a 4th and a 5th and a 6th etc. etc. its not likely to add anything particularly new andits going to be more of the same...will I be complaining? Fvck no:D

P.S. Boring and Dull story? Wow...their are many valid criticisms of the Bourne movies but they are two I thought I'd never see:eek:

An excellent movie series, who'd have thought Matt Damon would make a good action star. The first is easily my favourite. Glad you found and like them OP.

    Definite favourites of mine.

Up until this series I couldn't stand Matt Damon in films but he was perfect for the role of Jason Bourne.

Robert Ludlum's alerady written a second series with his books.

Bourne is likeBond, but better. The last Bond (QoS) seemed like it was heading in the direction of Bourne, no flashy gadgets etc

Just watching the Bourne Idenitity for the umteenth time - like Bond on Speed! Makes Die Hard seem positively pedestrian with its pace. Fantastic stuff. :):)

    +1
Love any action/thriller/spy films that tour the cities of europe for some reason

The first two films are excellent but the third is very average and adds nothing to the franchise.

Mighty impressive considering he's been dead for nigh on 8 years!

    yeah lol

    maybe he meant these:

    * The Bourne Legacy (by Eric Van Lustbader) (2004)
    * The Bourne Betrayal (by Eric Van Lustbader) (2007)
    * The Bourne Sanction (by Eric Van Lustbader) (2008)
    * The Bourne Deception (by Eric Van Lustbader) (2009)

You're going to love them!!! I've watched each of them umpteen times. You'll like them better 2nd time you watch them as quite a bit won't sink in 1st time through.
I wish I could erase them from my memory and watch them all over again!

Don't read the books - nearly the only time I've found that the movies were far better then the books. Just my opinion, I know some people love the books though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭ARGINITE

Books are far better than the movies, but the movies are still excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,354 ✭✭✭cjmcork

still haven't managed to watch 2 and 3..............ordered them so hope to watch this weekend.............

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

So I've finished watching The Bourne Identity and I loved it. Thought it was brilliant, I'm looking forward to seeing the next two now.

Just had a quick look on Wiki there about the series.
    Future

George Nolfi, who co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum, will be writing the script of a fourth film, currently titled 'Bourne 4'. The story for the new film will not be based on any of the novels by Robert Ludlum. Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass have been attached to the project."

An amazing amazing series, puts James Bond to shame!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,521 ✭✭✭Shred

I absolutely love this series, in particular Identity; what a fantastic thrill ride of a movie. Ultimatum is my least favourite as I just felt it wasn't quite as grounded as the other two in parts, still a great action flick nonetheless.

the one thing that really pissed me off about the third was
near the end when the chick is sending the fax and the guy comes in (sorry i'm terrible with names) if he had pulled the plug the fax wouldn't have sent as it waits till all pages have been scanned before sending yet he just stood there watching it

like Bond on Speed! Makes Die Hard seem positively pedestrian with its pace. Fantastic stuff. :):)

But he's just doing nothing really really fast. I found all the films extremely dull and the character is devoid of personality. Give me a wise cracking action hero any day.

It takes a lot of skill to fight someone and win. Bourne has fought people and been fast enough to see their attack and block it while countering their attack with his own. And he's done this while fighting multiple opponents at the same time.

He makes it look easy when its not.

Epic films! Loved every minute of them all. Talk of the fourth being a prequel possibly. Matt Damon is great as Bourne, Bryan Cox did a good turn in them aswell. The fist fights are great. As are the car chases.
Really enjoyed the chase in Ultimatum, probably because I was in New York a few weeks after seeng it. :D

I don't really agree with either of those points.

    The second and third films
went into more depth on threadstone and it's successor, Blackbriar. They go full circle and show Bourne getting his memory back. Those that were responsible for the program have either been killed or have been exposed.

What made the Bourne character captivating was a combination of his ability and the primal nature of his quest. ie. he wasn't fighting for anything more than his own survival, wanting to escape from the cold bastards who used him and finally being forced into facing them down, trying to make them pay.

So the trilogy ends like that and the final shot that shows that Bourne managed to survive.

Where do they go from here? The Bourne character would have nothing but distrust for 'institution' etc. so he can hardly become a Mission Impossible style operative.

He wouldn't work as a mercenary.

And a competitor face-off, someone who wants to be as kick ass as him (as in Carlos the jackal from the books) doesn't feel right either.

The Bourne trilogy was defined by it's 'controlled' nature. eg. the romance with Nicki is revealed but there is never any attempt to inappropriately shoehorn any love angle into the film.

Leave it be hollywood! LEAVE IT BE!!

The Bourne Supremecy is on ITV tonight at 9. Looking forward to it as I havent seen it.

Was a huge fan of the books and LOVED the first movie. Wished the direction on the second and third movies was better as I hate the shaky cam approach used though I did think the writing was good and can enjoy them after a dramamine...

For fans of the original book, check out the original mini-series with Richard Chamberlain which followed the book far more than the recent trilogy (though it has a different ending): http://www.amazon.com/Bourne-Identity-TV-Miniseries/dp/B00006AG8D

Spotted a copy of this for sale cheap in The Secret Bookstore in Dublin recently if anyone's interested.

That does be on Zone Thriller on Sky alot. In fact it was even on last night. I found it very boring.

I've never been a fan of action movies, or spy movies and avoided watching Bourne for quite a while after the first couple came out. I eventually gave in and watched them.......amazing. I loved the way they were different to the usual bad boy/wisecracking spy and there is, as another poster said, no love story forcibly shoehorned in.
What really did it for me though, was Greengarass' reluctance to use extras. Nerdy I know, but I can't help myself when I watch the 2nd two checking out the people in the background who might be going, look a man with a gun! But are probably going oi, look, is that Matt Damon?:o
    lol
