got a call from my mate this morning to say that he received an email from my account(obviously hacked)....with details on how to buy cheap mobile phones using paypal!

I've been using avast the past few months and never had any problems. How could this have happened?

I logged into my email and changed passwords etc and also on my paypal account.

does avast have a philising filter on it? Maybe I don't have the correct settings set up for avast :(

Could someone throw some light on this problem for me? I presume its a common occurance this email spoofing thing?

    regards,

They haven't necessarily hacked your account. It's fairly trivial to forge the from header in an email. It's possible that someone who had your email address got a virus and that harvested your address and then in turn started sending out forged messages with your name on it.

Change your password, update your virus & anti-spam databases, run a scan and you should be fine.
