I believe many entrepreneurs started from the bottom and many of them have lost fortunes. Me personally, well I've never had any friends that were exceptionally poor.

Yes, but if you remove the first and third description you find they stay poor.

What an ignorant question... It would have been the norm about 200+ years ago along with burning "witches".

What makes you think that wealth makes you more intelligent?

You have more access to a better education system but doesn't make you any more intelligent. PFFT!!!

I know plenty of poor people that are highly intelligent.

i don't think the OP was trying to say that. i think the implication was that if someone is intelligent, hard working and motivated, they will probably be able to make some money and lift themselves out of poverty

I dont think that was his point. I think he was just curious as to how many intelligent, motivated people DONT make it in there career(could be wrong but thats how i read it). Its an interesting question.:)

You are a Troll and nothing short of it. Im sure the mods have noticed this as well over a good number of different threads.

    why are they poor?

Sorry phantom, it just looks very ignorant to me. ;)

There are more factors involved than the three that you listed. Ability to communicate, luck, connections, organisational skills, want for materialistic things, religious reasons, resourcefulness. There are plenty more I am sure... but don't think that poor people are uneducated, unmotivated and unable to work hard.

I have met more rich people that fall into that catagory. Wouldn't lift a finger to scratch their own arse, yet they are filthy rich. They might just have excelent communication skills and have the right connections. Get me?

If you have any problems with any of my threads you are more than welcome to report it to the moderators. Which I am sure will give excellent judgement on the matter.

I have not been warned for trolling, I have never recieved an infraction for it, nor have I ever been banned for it. Statistics matter.

What I am, however, is very opinionated and I also hate certain degrees of ignorance.

If anything you are trolling. Which I will report :)

Im glad you are happy wasting the moderators time reporting me. Could be considered a case of pot calling the kettle black but if you are so naturally defensive then enjoy yourself.

so you're saying u know loads of intelligent hard working people, and lots of lazy stupid rich people? surely that can't be true? it's quite illogical imo.

Ok, one of the people who I know is stupidly rich, owns a huge amount of land in Wicklow, Couple of thousand. He is not a farmer, he has a house so big that you would get lost in it. They used to have maids and butlers and all that lark. While this man is very interesting and I admire him for his charm, he is pretty lazy, doesn't work or anything. Not saying he is stupid. I am sure he is educated somewhat. He inherited his fortune.

On the other hand, there is another man, that is roughly the same age as the man I mentioned above. This man is a gardener and used to fit fire places for a living (Retired from that now though) He worked hard all his life and endured a lot of hardship. He didn't recieve an education, junior cert maybe, not even sure if he went to secondry school actually. Anyway, he is extremely intelligent. Great problem solver etc etc.

Don't think that because someone is poor, that they are lazy, and if they are rich, they are hard working. It's not always the case.

Berty, Iamxavier: You're both trolls. Umkay? There, now we can live happily ever after.

OP: Yes. Several. Some of them are scam artists, but they meet your criteria and can't really blame them for it. Being poor is usually motivational. Many of them have mental issues , drinking/drug problems, etc. Stuff. Why am I entertaining such a silly question? Yes, I have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,824 ✭✭✭ShooterSF

I know rich people that are none of these things (Edit - mostly inherited richess). I also know some poor people who are hard working and intelligent but have poor social skills and struggle to get past interviews for jobs.

    Well put...

There is a lot of criteria involved. Not just the three. There are lots of combinations too. Lazy intelligent poor, lazy intelligent rich, hardworking stupid poor, hardworking stupid rich... etc etc. List is endless. Some are lucky some are not so lucky, it's unfortunate. A bit like officers in old armies, if you were born into a rich family then your chances of becomming an officer was greatly increased, yet being born into a poor family would mean that you would probably never become an officer. Regardless of intelligence etc etc.

    Yes.

And some people are born into poverty so I don't see how it's their fault that they're poor. The end.

You're always putting down poor people and that's obviously what you're trying to do with this thread.

I was about to say the same. One persons perception of poverty will differ from anothers.
Material wealth isn't a measure of success. How you are remembered is.

Have u ever met an industrious, intelligent, motivated, poor person?
Yes. My grandparents for a start. Anything they ever scraped together they invested in ensuring their kids got the best education and opportunities possible. They reached old age with damn few material possessions, but a sense of accomplishment and pride, and the kids they had looked after so well ensured they were well looked after when they needed it.
