    Hi,
I had to format my HD a few weeks ago. When reinstalling windows i noticed that the windows product key on the laptop was worn away and i couldn't read the digits. I contacted dell who told me they couldn't give out my key (even tho they verified who i was) and told me to contact microsoft.

I contacted microsoft via the acitivation phone number and the automated trollop told me to contact the laptop seller.

I tried looking for a support number to talk to a real person but microsoft want to charge me 72 euro to talk to someone, is this right??

Anyway windows is crying for activation. What do i do??

Use a Dell Xp or Vista disk a Dell Pc or Laptop and it doesnt require a serial just activate it when you install it. if you are not using a dell xp/vista disk you need a valid serial end of.

Yeah, i just got through to microsoft and they told me to get a new cd from dell. They would then be able to validate the cd and give me a new product key. Cheers

It a pity you formatted it.

For future reference - If you have lost serial numbers but still have the operating system on the pc, try using the following app:

    http://rockxp.en.softonic.com/ and its FREE.

    RockXP -

Imagine you lose your XP product key and then you need to format your computer. How are you supposed to get that key back without entering into illegal practices?

The solution is RockXP, a simple tool that will retrieve your Windows XP key from the system and enables you to restore your activation in case you need to reinstall Windows again on your system.

RockXP doesn't only work with Windows, but with any other Microsoft application you have on your computer. What's more, it can also scan the whole system and find other saved password.

The program includes a password generator in case you run out of ideas, though unfortunately it can only generate one password at a time.

With RockXP you can recover missing Windows XP product keys, as well as keys for other Microsoft applications.

    Also try: http://sniffpass.en.softonic.com/
