Subtitle problem - UPC DVR

    Hi,

    I have a small problem getting the subtitles on my UPC DVR. I checked out the UPC thread and also the instructions on the UPC website but I still haven't managed to get the subtitles option working. I think I know how it should work, go onto a station with subtitle functionality eg BBC1, click OK and it brings up the menu showing the language and the subtitle selection option (english,off) - on say the BBC its defaulted to english but I am not sure how to actually call them up. I'm sure I am doing something stupid but for the life of me I can't figure out what else I can do. Can someone set me straight?

    Just checked on my DVR and all I did was press"i info" button,that brings up a screen saying soundtrack language and subtitle lanuage. My subtitles were set to off but by highlighting the box and setting it to English,the subtitles appeared on screen.

    Thanks, had tried that already - pressed i button (on mine they were already set to english but I saw the option to set them to off) and set them to english (just to be sure) and still no subtitles. Did this on BBC for a show that should have been subtitled. Is there any overall subtitle control somewhere????

    Subtitles from the STB seem to be a problem area. Sometimes they appear, sometimes not, sometimes they appear for a while and then stall for a few minutes before reappearing. A PITA really.

    Personally I just use the Teletext/Ceefax subtitles (Page 888) usually on the TV if I need them (usually due to unintelligible NI accents or incompetent sound engineers) which seem more reliable on the whole.

    Menu>>>settings>>>preference settings. You'll get a similar page to the info button just with extra options. This is the only other screen that has subtitle options on it and where you turn them off for good if not required. If that still fails, as Alun said, use the tried and trusted 888.
