    Howdy folks,

I've forgotten my password to my eircom broadband (it's the long key you get when you first sign up) and I'm now looking to set up something else with the wireless.

Is there a way of finding this out or resetting it? Don't really know how to go about figuring this one out.

    Cheers

type in 192.168.1.254 into a new web page and it should bring up your wireless router. Then go to wireless and your password should be there!

    Worked for me! :)

Just click http://192.168.1.254 to get to your router and then click on the wireless option.
You'll find your WEP key there or your WPA key if you've set that up instead.

tell me the 8 digits on your SSID eircomXXXX XXXX and i'll tell you :P *

*this isn't a serious offer, use the cd that came with the router as gordonnet said

While you are in the setup area change your SSID too.

...why should you change your SSID ? Is there a security threat?

It took me a few minutes to understand from your pictorial answer that you meant not changing the SSID can lead to the password being hacked. (Am i right?)
So i looked it up and it seems that it is recomended to change the SSID when using WEP.

But what about WPA, that's what i use. Should i still change the SSID?

Don't need to if using WPA but it's worth it for your own sake to change it to something more memorable, especially when surrounded by lots of other networks named 'eircomABCD EFGH'.

Basicly, if you look in the picture, if your SSID is eircom1234 5678, that generator has generated all keys that will be factory supplyed on that router, but if you change your SSID to lets say just "Eircom" or whatever, the keygen wont work, as it needs the 8 digits. I would reccomend WPA encryption over WEP though, as WEP is very insecure anyway... Sorry for not making it clear ;)
