From plain crazy, unlikely to ever happen, except maybe in some far off galaxy, to the more plausible, make your predictions here.

Trapatoni will lead Ireland to the World cup, topping the group, with resonating calls for him to be made the new taoiseach, because he's a far better manager than Cowen could ever be.

Cowen's cabinet will collapse after a possible pullout by 1-2 independents, then followed by the Greens, in an effort to save face. The electrorate will rightly tell them to **** off either way.

Organic food will become more popular as the financial situation worsens even more, with more top name businesses tumbling/going into administration in the New year.

Ireland will come 1/2nd in six nations, with those who oppose having to shut up about Kidney " for now"

Tensions will get either worse/better, with Russia and America depending on the whole missle shield thing and a few other factors.

Mugabe will die under mysterious terms.
The nuclear operation will come under intense American pressure once again, but attempts to make a nuclear bomb will go unfounded.

India and Pakistan will see relations detiorate further, until intervention.

Afghanistan will darken Obama's honeymoon, with his administration finding another war on two fronts, this time Pakistan.
There will be clear divides under the Obama/Clinton machine.

Lisbon will be rejected, by a really slim margin

And finally, Heath Ledger will lose out to some guy in the movie "Australia", but everyone will say it still counts as being Ledger's.

The guy said he would qualify us for the world cup. Also qualification bouts count as world cup matches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,311 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

So he only qualifies for the world cup... and that means he is entitled to run the country.... WTF???...

By "leading Ireland to the world cup" I took it as winning the thing.

Considering our track record in the last few years, qualification would be pretty good in itself.

    Hyper Inflation for the US

Martial Law in the US (already happened but the people have ignored it so far)

Looking back at 2008 and thinking wow... That was actually quite an awesome year in comparison!

January should be interesting... Around 21st 22nd :D

    Just wait n see............

Ya there is a very high chance of at least one assassination attempt on Barak Obama, no doubt some well meaning cleric from the middle east will endorse the appointment of Obama that will be broadcast in america and some nutter will find the vindication to take matters for america's survival into his own hands.

There are some nutty bunnies in that country!!!

    * The Lisbon Treaty to fail - again!
    * The horses ass that is the British queen will step down in favour of her son - only to be replaced by another horse looking ass wife. (The PR gimmicks for Charles has started already).
    * Cowan to not step down, he's too stubborn and thick headed.
    * Harney to continue to ruin whatever dept she is/will be transferred to.
    * The Green party to continue decline into even bigger farcical proportions.
    * More over-blown Irish twats to get statues of themselves.
    * Major businesses to collapse
    * Dole queues stretching out the doors of unemployment buildings again more so.
    * A dirty bomb will be eventually set off by a terrorist faction.
    * Obama will continue to surprise people by doing stuff and siding with people, they would not have expected from previous more useless American presidential twats and war criminals.

I reserve the right to be wrong and in some, I hope I am!

Really hope you're wrong about the first and right about the second.

The banks cock up again and look for another 5 billion euro bailout.
Our Goverement thinks more money is an excellent solution, so good in fact that Lenihan predicts the bailout will be the envy of the financial world....again

To raise more money, prostitution becomes taxed by the government with the Dail changed into Capital brothel. Mary Harney becomes new minister for BDSM and still fcuks it up

    Thats not actually a criticism.

For 2009, fit, meet shan. Unemployment is predicted to reach double figures, already 2008 was worse than the worst year of the 80s, the recession will deepen into a depression, Obama will cut back on outsourcing, scuppering the FDI which accounted for 90% of our exports and most of our industry, the public sector will drag the country kicking and screaming back into the middle ages, with themselves as the feudal overlords living large off the peasantry, and thank you Berite for putting us there. The IMF will have to bail out the country, leaving us as the only truly third world nation in the EU, and there's nowhere left to run.

People will continue to play football.

The church will see a rise in attendance and contributions, which goes to show what they've been praying for, the miserable bastards, house prices will continue to collapse throughout the year, regardless of government attempts to bail out the entire worthless sector, those in power will excuse their actions by trying to create another crisis to distract people (woo politicking), and I personally will be dealing with things assisted by considerably more decent cognac than in 2008.

    Happy fucking new year, people.

*The Obama myth will become clear, as things change very very little on the other side of the pond. In fact, the Obama camps empty words over Gaza/Israel at the minute indicates alot in my opinion....

*Lisbon will fail, again. Expect Cohn-Bendt/Sarkozy and their sort to get their knickers in a twist again.

*A bizarre series of local elections, completely scattered results with nobody really fully taking the FF slice of the pie (FG/Lab/SF all gain a few council seats, Greens get wiped out)

*More big companies say buh bye.

*Greece WILL kick off again, I'd bet my house on this one. When they put the copper involved on trial, watch.

*Declan Ganley refuses to go away, and may even end the year as an MEP.

Dyeing one's hair blonde and having one's name tattooed on one's forearm will become obligatory.

Non-txt spkrs will be hunted to extinction.

The Greens will feel the backlash of the electorate (not stupid, you know).

The internet will shut down for a month's holiday in August. 700 million people will commit suicide worldwide (in August).

Mary Harney will announce a new plan on childhood obesity. All schoolchildren will be force-fed Maccies for lunch and prevented from exercising.

Dublin will be 47 pts up at half-time in the Leinster final and lose.

Biko will whine about the above point.

Fianna Fail will win a resounding overall majority (the electorate is not stup...)
