Right, the title says it all. For all you lurkers, and the regulars, tomorrow, Jan 1st is the inaugural 2009 boards spin, and the first century of the new year.

It doesn't matter how fit you think you are, or actually are, we will get you around 100k -so be at the Harolds Cross Dog Track at noon, and Dundrum under the LUAS bridge at 12.20.

Destination/route to be decided, but everyone will make it round, so there's no more excuses -see you there!

I'll be on for this. I'd suggest that people bring lights just in case.

    Ok. I'm in.

It'll be my first century and I'm giving prior warning - I'm C-R-A-P at hills so be prepared to wait for me at the top of each one. Hope I don't stretch the goodwill of the group too much.

    See you all tomorrow.

Argh! Why must you tempt me? Not nearly fit enough for this, will have to wait until saturday...unless a miracle happens by tomorrow and I stop this wretched coughing.

Aye, there is no comparison. I'm all for north side spins, but if you want a bit of suffering, hit Wicklow.

I've been across a few of them this Christmas :)
Some buddies and myself have done 4 spins over the break. All have been up around Naul, Ratoath, Garristown areas. There's great cycling out that direction with such a warren of quiet roads.

    12? That's ridiculously early!
My inaugural appearance on a boards spin depends of course on how late the festivities go on tonight.

The R122 is quaint and the R108 to Drogheda north of Naul is spectacular.

I think 6 of us went out. Just back. 48 miles. Went over Sally Gap and came back with Mr Skeffington back the N81. Tired.

Tired myself, just getting the feeling back in my fingers to type this, gonna go to bed now for a bit of a snooze. Me and Planet X took the short route so I think the other lads went on for the century, what a start to the new year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,087 ✭✭✭unionman

Well, not quite the century as it happens. I'm just home, 74km on the clock. Great spin though. Was able for the last climb out of Manor Kilbride today, in stark contrast to my attempt at same on Stephens Day.

The clouds cleared nicely as we descended from Sally Gap, and everything looked incredible. A few patches of ice and frost here and there, but an event free journey home.

Great to meet liamo today. Much better at climbing than he gives himself credit for. Blorgs new bike is the DB, very impressive.

    Now...dinner...

oooh no, you didn't make your century. :P

Doing 100km in one day sounds kind of impractical in winter anyway. By the time the roads are safely ice free there's only a few hours of daylight to cycle in.

Great spin. Now that it's over I can say that it was enjoyable. However there were times - usually during a climb - when I wondered at the wisdom of my decision to join you today. The mind is a wonderful thing though, and the memory of the pain is fading and I'm starting to think that I might like another bash at it in the near future.

I was just shy of 60km today. However, I'd like to think that those 60km were worth at least 100 flat km. Does that count towards my century per month?

Great to meet you all today. Thanks for all the encouraging words on the climbs.

    Regards,

    Liam
