have searched but cannot find this query posted already

have sky+ so 2 cables from the LNB down to the box

afaik one of these powers the LNB from the box, the other is just a feed from the LNB to the 2nd tuner / RF input on the sky+

is it possible to split the 'non-powered' cable where it connects to the sky+ box to run a 2nd sat receiver (ie the silvercrest lidl one), turning off the LNB power on the second box in the process

want to avoid the hassle of installing a second dish etc if at all possible

i'm afraid that will not work.
All you have to do is replace LNB on your dish with quad LNB for Sky dish.
    €29.99 (Including VAT at 21.5%) from satellite.ie

Just run a 3rd cable from the dish's LNB.
It has two spare outlets since you have Sky+.

The cable is NOT unpowered. It has 13V or 18V and either a 22kHz tone or not.
These make FOUR states, giving four different selections of channels.

I think old sky LNB's have Twin-output. House next to me has one of them, its been there at least last 8 years... Originally installed by sky. OP needs to check what LNB he has.
