so i was browsing around earlier, reading a few online boards, looking at porn the usual, and clicked a link that opened a child porn site. now u couldnt tell from the name of the site or anything, i had no idea what i was clicking through to. It was pretty sick. i shut it up and reported it to hotline.ie.
there was this thing at the end that said storing is illegal, believe me, that the last thing i want to do, is there folders I should clear etc? i didnt go any further into site once it had opened, didnt open any photos or anything, and have cleared my temp folders, but is there some way of making sure all this is gone? The idea of being branded a paedophile is terrifying me! Is there other places i should report it?

Just clear your temporary internet files, cookies and browsing history and you'll be fine.

And after that if you want to be super extra safe download an app that overwrites the empty space on your HD multiple times to scramble any file remains you have there. If you simply delete a file the file itself is still there, only the path to it is deleted.

    You have a selection here:
    http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwerase.html

I understand it's mostly for psychological reasons but if it makes you feel better!

unless you think the fbi are going to crash through your window any minute you should be fine. Just erase your browsing history and temp files

Download Spybot and use the secure shredder on your temporary Internet files and cookies. It should have an option for adding these files anyway, at least it used to.

You might be able to download the secure shredder app on its own from their website. Its in advanced mode, tools in the actual Spybot application if you can't get it on its own.

You should also be able to start it from the start menu in programs-> Spybot -> secure shredder

Well thanks to the Data Retention Act the fact that you visited that site will have been recorded and kept on file for five years. Nothing you can do about that now. But accidently viewing such material is not a big deal once you remove or make an attempt to remove the material from your machine. For example if you got spam of that type you could not be held responsible for it once you clicked delete, despite delete not really removing anything. But If you didn't click delete within a reasonable time then the area starts getting a bit grey.
At the end of the day don't worry about it. The worst that is going to happen is that you'll go blind from one handed surfing.

Jesus! An acquaintance of mine happened upon a website of that nature through no fault of his own while browsing the internet. He thought nothing of it initially, but when it was brought up in a job interview a year later, well he was displeased to say the very least.

So Deadeyes, how did you lose your sight? :D:p

This isn't much of a personal issue OP, but I wouldn't worry about it in the slightest. It's happened to most people who browse the internet and look at porn, at some stage you'll hit a sit that has girls of dubious legality. Best thing to do is just close down the browser window, blank your history/cache and go on about your business elsewhere. If you're part of the tinfoil hat brigade here you can use a secure free-space wiper to overwrite your free space and make it incredibly hard to recover any of those cached images but that's pretty much overkill :)

As long as you don't make it a point to visit that site again or start getting interested in that sort of thing then you'll be just fine

    hahah Brilliant
You should be fine. Besides I mean, if they start looking into it, youve got this to show you made a definite attempt to clear your name before being accused of anything.

Thanks guys, yeah, the disk clearing is more to just put my mind at ease than anything else, but I will do.
Reason I listed in personal issues was I was pretty shocked and then paranoid about it all.
    thanks everyone!
got a reply from hotline, they say they will investigate. thanks again.

What?!! Are you serious? I mean, I've heard about employer's scanning the net for (future)employees on social-networking sites, but I never knew that they could do this!

JohnGalt is trolling, he has been banned many times over for being an arse, I'm surprised he hasn't been sitebanned yet..
