Just watched this and was very impressed. I had not heard anything about it and saw one tv trailer earlier today, so I was going into this completely open-minded.

I won't go into much, if any, of the plot as this is so new, but I can see many nominations for this in the near future. Smith and Dawson were pretty impressive. Certainly the best role I have seen Dawson play.

It was just nice to be taken by surprise by a film. Last time that happened I reckon it was Crash, as there was very little hype for it.

been meaning to give it a look as the trailer looks good.Got empire today and the review wasn't that great, however if you saw its worth a watch will give it a go.Starting to not trust empire or total film reviews. They said Mom and Dad was excellent and sick and it was one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen, not a bit gory either and the Wrestler although watchable was fairly mediocre.

Thought it was very enjoyable.. not amazing and maybe a bit oversentimental (verging on schmaltzy) but Will Smith was, as always, very impressive. And always great to see Woody Harrelson back in something. But thing struck me when I was watching it, why does Rosaria Dawson seem to be in every second film nowadays?!

    Anyways, definitely worth a watch..

I bloody cried at the end of this movie!
Very powerful stuff - don't trust the reviews on this one, go judge for yourself.

I thought this was very smaltzy and very long. Not enough Woody Harrilson. Great fim to bring a girl to. The new Notebook

I fell asleep for ten mins watching this and woke up to find Id missed nothing that needed rewinding.

The worst film Will Smith has made since Wild Wild West.

    Shockingly sh!te.

I thought this was an excellent film with excellent acting by the two main characters. Should have been 15 minutes shorter though but a powerful film all the same.

    Watched this film this evening...

Not sure what to think really. There's only so warm a heart can get!!!

Will Smith was just fantastic, I think they really should have focused more on Woody Harrelson's character though.

Overall it was just too predictable.

saw it without knowing much about it. thought it was a good story. could have been more edgy, but interesting film

Ditto. Have not cried becuase of a movie since i was a child. I think this was a great film. Though at imes i was thinking, "where is this going?", once you hang onto it, it turns into a great film. Possibly a nomination for Smith IMO, but maybe not a win.

Great Movie, Watched it last night. Wasn't far off tears myself. Very deep, emotional stuff.

Another brillient film with Will Smith in it.

I have no intention of seeing this.

I saw the first proper trailer and I knew what it was about, even though it was trying to convince me that there was some mystery about how he was going to change the lives of people. It just seems to me that it's probably terribly po-faced, I've seen enough schmaltzy rubbish recently so I don't want any more.

I did get a laugh out of it though when my brother in law explained to me the mechanics of how he did what he was going to do.

    Pffft!

I certainly dont reflect the sentiment of the Thread,

I did not like it, like 'The Pursuit of Happiness' Smith is clawing at the Oscar that has eluded him and although he is good enough to win one I dont think it will be with this movie.

How can I describe my feelings about the movie...hmmmmm. Its like in Top Gear when some cars that come along with a million HP but cant transfer the power to the ground so it just slides everywhere!!! (well that makes perfect sense to me :pac: ) Thats how it made me feel.

I felt it was all a little contrived, I was disappointed that it was made so obvious what he was planning to do
The scene where he sees the Jellyfish as a kid ruined it as I knew what was going to happen with that straight away

I feel people will be blinded by the epic thing that is happening and not really question it, well I have! Thats just my opinion anyway.

it was fairly obvious what was going to happen from an early stage but I still really enjoyed the movie and it was a great performance from will smith.

Like the others I'd like to have seen a bit more of woody's character.

Definetely worth a watch I reckon.

I thought it was good, not a masterpiece by a long shot.

You can clearly see smith is going for the oscar (should of got it for ALI), but he wont come close to getting it for this.

I think Barry Pepper was mis-cast in the movie, he didn't make much of a contribution to the movie.

    Because she's hawwt :D

NO way, she has a ****ing huge mouth!

The synopsis sounds good butthe Will Smith element is very off putting.

I enjoyed it. I think it'll appeal more to some people than others. Cynics should avoid. I thought Pursuit of Happiness was good too. Bit heavy maybe to watch with weed and mates...

I just watched it. My second film of the night/morning after Pineapple express, so I was coming into it a little differently from most people.

I really liked it. I figured out what was going on fairly early, but not too early, but I still enjoyed watching it pan out. I think people are inclined to think that they have uncovered the twist too early in the film and it takes too long to happen, but I don't think there really is a twist. Everyone has already figured out what is happening. We know what is happening although no one else does. That is the beauty of it.

An intelligent film. Cynics write it off as it is. A hero, a girl, sentimentality and Will Smith. But there are a lot of nuances in the film which could be examined if you have the time. For instance, the present he never gets to give to her, why a jellyfish, the role of Barry Pepper, what his brother knows, the development of Smith's character from a dynamic success to a socially absent man and his subsequent redevelopment, his guilt and the role it plays, the justification for his actions.

What about the ethics and responsibility of the film? It seems to grant a sort of heroism to what Smith does.
Are we going to have an outbreak of suicidal people seeing themselves as heroes and carrying out similar acts to Ben/Tim?

ditto, it's an acceptable film, the missus liked it

Contrived nonsense. Dont waste your time people..

Absolute self indulgent ****e with a see through plot which means you know whats coming after the first 20mins.

Even my wife hated it, so it must be really bad.

Im not sure about it. The first while i was getting fed up it was slow moving but then it got going and the end had me in tears. I have seen better but its enjoyable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,737 ✭✭✭pinksoir

Yeah, by the end I realised the beginning was so slow moving so that you'd care about the characters. The cynic in me was crying out 'contrived, contrived!' though. But in the end I enjoyed it.

The premise of the film is a bit far fetched, which in turn drags down the film. However, I can see it doing really well with awareds etc due to the 'unusualness' of its story, look and overall morality.

But the acting by the two leads was excellent....best acting I've seen from Smith, bar Ali.

And as a previous poster mentioned, this is definitely the new Notebook!

Is Connor Cruise in this movie and if so who is he playing?
